So I'm an Sorry-Ass Under 18 tt that wants to drift his 316i.
But the problem is that he needs to weld his diff. he doesn't have a license so where will he go to drift? I can drive around the farm i live in, there is also a little place I can drift, But I'm afraid it's not enugh. I have enough money for that weld, but I'm not too sure it'll be owrth it.

OR I can Straight pipe her, BUT the f*cking problem with that is, it's an 1.8 DOHC *quiet* engine. And I'm spending some big ass money here on both of them, so Which one should I do?

Straight-Pipe is going to be like £70, but I'm not too sure how I'm gonna get my car over there.

Welding the Diff is going to be about £50-£70 And I, For sure, can get there. About 100 metres away, there is an mechanic that can do a good job on it.

Please Help. Or maybe recommend me another mod that I could do that doesn't exceed like £100

If you're going to be practicing to drift outside your house i'd probably go for the welded diff and forget the exhaust. The 4 pot will sound crap anyway and you'll just end up annoying everyone within a 5 mile radius of you.

Also, and not wanting to p!ss on your parade, it is a 316! It isn't a powerful car, but is comparatively heavy, drifting might not be too dramatic!

Yeah i thought it wouldn't be too loud/ sound great and drifting won't be anything special, but i can't afford any 328i or 325i.

Know any other mods perhaps?

80psi in the rear tyres, a wet day and a lot of clutch abuse and it might get the wheels spinning a bit.

Thought it might spin at 6k RPM clutch kick in the dry? It doesn't have 60BHP

Lots of air in the rear tyres, get the thinnest tyres you can get on there, a good handbrake (hydro ideally) and a good clutch kick should see you drifting even in the dry.

All this just sh*t on my hopes... Hydro... No.

Tyres, Yes I can get some ruined tyres for free which should do it. I really don't know now.. I feel like 115BHP don't do it. And I'll feel bad hooning my car frown

Depends on the surface doesn't it. 115bhp could be plenty on mud/grass.. or gravel

It's concrete. But little stones/sand on it. So it should be better

Weld the diff and drop most of the interior out.

Forget the straight pipe, just a waste of time and sounds like a tank.

Starting with a little amount of power is always a good move as you will learn techniques you will need should you choose to change for more power.

Everyone will tell you, you need a straight 6 but starting with a 4 will teach you way more than just powering.

Yeah, thanks for the advice.
I would strip it, but I'll keep that for a full on drift car.
This car is way too nice to put into a drift car, I'll weld her and if she doesn't do it, I'll annoy my dad about taking the rear/ passenger seats out, dash and all that good stuff

WEIGHT REDUCTION, BRO!

TC properly off (long press of DTC button) should see 115 ponies light up those rears no problem.

Revs up dump the clutch.

Already had some drifting experience, TC off and that was some fun. But i'll try in the dry now soon, after i get my driver's window regulator fitted, so I can hear that engine work at 5k+ RPM

Soak the concrete too and make it a mini skid-pan.

If it's big enough to drift on you should be able to get it a bit wet too.
