Cleaned, quick as a flash...

From today's SUN (where else?)
"CAPTAIN GATSO and his wrecking crew have been active in my neck of the woods recently.
They’ve been spraying orange paint over the lenses of the tax-collecting speed cameras shooting up like mushrooms at the side of every road.
Motorists are cheering them on.
But as soon as the spray painters strike, the police dispatch workmen to clean it off.
Funny how graffiti can stick around for years without the police showing the slightest bit of interest in the vandals responsible.
But the moment someone defaces one of their darling speed cameras he becomes Public Enemy No1 and the cleaners move into action as quickly as World War Two fighter pilots scrambling to repel the Luftwaffe.
Then again, there’s no money in tackling graffiti"
Another spot-on rant from Littlejohn.

Why don't they just spray the lens over with acid etch spray (the stuff you get for spraying on your windows to make them go frosted). The lens or at the very least the cover would be completely useless within minutes and would require the camera to be dismantled and the part replaced. I think that might slow the Police down a little bit instead of just being incovenient.
Seems to me that the people in question aren't really spraying the cameras to stop them working so much as raise some publicity and public opinion.
Not that I would condone such an action as that really is vandalism or possibly even criminal damage (is there a difference?)
The alternative has to be a nice big grinder with suitable cutting disc. I know your average cutting disc wouldn't make a dent on the armour plate but the right disc would go through it like butter...now that would be a bit extreme but it would certainly stop the camera working!

I'm impressed with the response times, much better than Leics plod can manage.
About a year ago I was driving into Leicester city centre at "rush" hour, on a main road and encountered a large Diesel spillage at a roundabout, this was potentially lethal for a motorcyclist and dangerous for any vehicle.
I drove to a nearby Police Station and reported the spillage as the severe hazard that it was, the cop on the desk thanked me and said they would send someone to evaluate/deal with it straight away.
About 3 hours later I was returning back down this road only to find the spillage still there, no cleaners, no warning signs - Bu**er all had been done, fortunately for road safety all was not lost as the mobile laser-plods were out and about in another area of the city.
Road safety? which is more hazardous, cars doing 35mph or vehicles losing control on a busy roundabout?
But it costs money to clean the road where as "laser-Quest" is self-financing/profitable.
