I’ve decided I’m getting a new car in may but I’m struggling what to get, I have got my mind set on a 16/65 Audi A4 2.0tdi sline (190ps) but the only thing that’s putting me off is all this diesel stuff

I do roughly 20k miles a year probably alittle more motorways than anything I test drove the bmw 320d m sport auto and hated it I drove the A4 and really liked it that’s why I want to get one?

I was also considering a turbo petrol something like a fiesta st / polo gti or seat idiza Cupra

I don’t want something that drinks fuel either but also has some power there as I currently own a 66 plate Corsa 1.4 SE (90bhp) which is just not what I want to be driving

My maximum budget is about 17k as It will be on HP

How long do you plan to keep it? Less than the next 5-10 years at most and I wouldn't worry about diesel - EU6 diesels seem to be exempt from emissions charging schemes etc so far, and both of them will be.

Ive said it multiple times today but be sure you are happy with A4 suspension before you buy. I found sline very hard.

Please take it for extended test drive on roads you know. Consider comfort or adaptive suspension. Also consideer the sline seats are very hard.

Other than that it is excellent. I actually love the 218 v6 engine which is very reasonable 1500 over the 2TDI.

I’d be keeping it for around 4 years most likely?

I only drove the Audi for about 5 minutes on a new surface so couldn’t really get a good idea on it, I shall take another but longer this time

I had two standard test drives and still made the mistake!

Try to get extended one by yourself and over roads you know. I will never buy a car again without one of these.

Here are a couple of better riding alternatives:

Q50

C250 Sport

C220 AMG Line

Lexus IS300H these aren't that great on fuel when on the motorway:

I don't think the Audi rides that badly but I will say over a long run you do notice the S Lines stiffness over something like a C Class Sport/AMG Line
