My Mk7 Golf GTI

I bought my first Golf GTI a year ago (Mk5 - there's a thread here) and loved it. It was getting a little long in the tooth and I was offered this at a great price.
It's done 34K, has almost every conceivable option and I love it. Thankfully it still has some warranty as the cruise control isn't working so it's already booked in for that to be looked at next week.
Anyway here's a photo at a services on the way back from collecting it...

I drove it home in 'Eco' mode back to Newcastle and managed a total of 47mpg which I think is fantastic. I did hit the 'Sport' button a couple of times and it went like stink in 3rd gear particularly.

My brother has one of these and it has just had the APR stage 1 treatment - utterly transformed! What was a decently quick car is now seriously quick yet retains the OE driving characteristics and can still do 40 mpg.
He had a Sachs performance clutch fitted at the same time as the standard item isn't up to taking stage 1 power/torque I don't think.

How do you find it compared to the mk5? I'm considering one of those for my next car... test drove one years ago but ended up buying a Cooper S at the time instead.
Great cars. I never wanted one and never found them remotely exciting, however when searching for a run around last year I came across the staggering PCH deal and ordered mine (without driving) for 2years at £95 per month...
On delivery I was amazed at the cars ability. Whilst it’s neither at the cutting edge of performance or the pinnacle of luxury - it sits slap bang in the middle and is a perfect daily driver. Enough grunt (and great accessibility to all the performance on tap) to motor along very nicely, but then some decent tech that puts other manufacturers to shame. Even in basic spec the car is just “sorted”...
It has to go back in December and whilst I’m planning to buy something faster, louder and generally more aggressive - I can already place bets that any replacement will not be as a good overall and likely to have many flaws compared to the GTi.

Have to say, if they were doing that deal now I would also order one without even driving it. Turns out the faulty Active Cruise Control (ACC) is down to the front sensor which needs recalibration by the dealer @ £247 (not covered under the warranty) so I think I'll live without it for a little longer.
Plans are to get some decent tyres on it, give the seats and interior a proper deep clean then maybe get the wheels refurbished. It'll also need some new pads and discs in the next few months too.
Once the warranty has expired I may consider an EVO remap although I've read that the standard clutches can't cope with the increased torque. Not that I'll be horsing it anywhere, I'm managing a combined 39mpg at the moment!

OP I would ask around at a couple of dealers for re calibrating the ACC and getting it done under warranty. A friend of mine has a TT and a bit of plastic trim was pealing away, one dealer said he'd have to pay for it and another replaced it under warranty. Try and do some research about the problem and see what route other people took.

Are you just getting ACC deactivated, or something a bit different? Tyres - PS4 or are PS4S available, as you're on 19's? If you're on Bridgestones now, they're like rock & not great.
The clutch - Definitely a weak point, even on standard cars. I've never had to replace a clutch in half a million+ miles and counting, but unless I change faster than I normally do, that might be broken (which will make me sad).
If by any chance you're not there already, GTI forum is useful, as I guess many of these things are.
Finally, sport mode occasionally and you didn't go far a PP
It can be fixed using a Hella Gutmann CSC machine but it's difficult to find anywhere that has one. VW obviously has one, and seemingly can charge for the privilege.
Also the car was bought used so the PP was not my omission, but it is the launch model so I suppose the original buyer redeemed himself there.
Interesting read about the Bridgestones as that's what I was going to opt for, maybe I need to rethink that if they're too hard.
