I have a notice right above my letterbox requesting that people go to the side door and ring the bell for deliveries.

For the second time now, the postman has seemingly decided that it's too much trouble to walk 10 extra steps and ring the doorbell, to deliver a 'signed for' parcel to me (this being a parcel containing some electronic spare parts that I needed for today).

Either he can't read (and I would have thought the ability to read would be an essential requirement for a postman) or he just couldn't be bothered.

I include an image for your viewing pleasure - I placed the red notification card there for the purposes of taking the image (I was hoping to send it to RM however their online complaints form has no facility for attaching images).

Perhaps I need to create a more specific note - for deliveries, signed for post etc. please go to side door.....

But honestly, how hard can it be?

And it's not as though the house looks deserted during the day either, with a car in the driveway, window(s) open...

larger font, probably use dyslexic font + yellow background. maybe that'll help them?

I understand your frustration but, if you go to the range or even amazon etc they sell wireless doorbells for sub £10. Battery powered for the presser (which granted will be a pain when it stops working and I won't know laugh) and plugs into the wall for the bell noise.
Bought one myself as I'm always missing the door.
Really good investment for a small amount of money that might be worth getting to save you the hassle?

I have a wireless doorbell, but only on the side door.

This was done on purpose to deter casual callers at the front door (we get a lot of canvassers, JW's and so on...).

Is the side door through a gate?

Nope, just a short walk (10 paces) up the driveway - ironically the front door *is* through a gate (although the gate is literally adjacent to the door / letterbox).

Reposition the note over the top of the letterbox.

Remove the letterbox by the sign?

Then there's nowhere to post the card other than going to the entrance you desire.

Oh and put a letterbox in the side door for normal post

take pic, save, open e mail, click 'insert', click on picture, insert pic into body of e mail, add own text, as sarcastic as you can, done. no attachment.

I'm sure there is something about there needing to be a letterbox for Royal Mail to deliver to. OK, the postie needs to hand you stuff sometimes as you sign for it, or it's too big, but in his head he may feel that he has discharged his duty once he reaches the letterbox so doesn't need to go any further.

Or he (or she) may be just a bit thick.

My guess is that the postman reckons that reaching the nearest (to him) door to your house is sufficient, and that's it's up to you to answer such door if you want your parcel.

It's simple. Take the card, pick up the goods, explain the situation there and they'll have a word with him.
If it doesn't work lie in wait for him....

Other than that I like the idea of moving the letterbox to the other door or fitting a mains wired doorbell.

My postman is brilliant and brings parcels to work for me if I need to sign for them. Top bloke.

Something not right there, it's a lot more hassle for a postie to write out a card, take the parcel away again (possibly having to carry it about for the rest of his day), sticker it up, log it and put it in ready for collection at the end of his day, than to deliver it to you even if there's a bit of hassle involved going to a different door. I'd suggest he's tried the side door and got no reply. You'd be amazed at the lengths most posties go to to avoid taking a parcel back to the depot.

I've been on hold to their customer services for about 30 mins now - Royal Mail fail again! I'm trying to get a postage price and buy online but they don't have a consistent message on their price finder/online buy/product details so I'm calling to clarify. I can't even pop to the Post Office as it's an online purchase only! Grrr! furious

I got a reply from Royal Mail today, and my gob is smacked.

No small wonder they are struggling to survive, if this is what they believe to be the right thing to do.

I am astounded.

Thank you for contacting Royal Mail.

I am sorry to advise that if your front door has a letterbox and this is the main delivery point for your address then we are legally obliged to deliver to this delivery point and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

With the above in mind I respectively advise you to seal up your letterbox on your front door, once this is sealed we will deliver to your side door and use this delivery point for any future deliveries .

I hope that the above information resolves your enquiry and concludes this matter, however if you require any further assistance please don't hesitate to contact us back.

Per my previous post, that's exactly the answer I expected (although I was hoping for the correct words).
