Amp & speakers for £1,000, possible?
Discussion
I’d like some speakers and an amp to play my music through, (currently use a Sonos). I play my music through Spotify. I’m no audiophile and apologies in advance if this makes me sound like a chav but I mostly listen to techno, house and rock n roll.
I’d like some speakers that are bassy if possible.
I’d also prefer to purchase second hand.
TIA.

These have got to be worth a look, no need for additional amp either:

What physical size can you accommodate? For bass with low end, your options are
Floorstanders with large woofers
Transmission Line Floorstanders/bookshelfs on stand (smaller footprint, e.g. PMC)
Bookshelf with large woofers on solid stands.
Smaller speakers with subwoofer
Active speakers may also be an good option.
Has it got to be floorstanders?
I would go...

Pair of Quad S2 speakers and a small Rel sub (buy that used, a strata for £100 would be perfect).

A pair of these, with a Sonos Connect:Amp, perhaps?

Like the look of the Sonos, would that be capable of powering those speakers okay?

Overpriced and oak is the more popular colour. Don't pay more than around £400 ish if you buy. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

I’d feel like I’m wasting their time though considering I intend to buy second hand.
You might find something you like within budget though. What music do you listen to?
Just seen, house and techno. Same as me.
I would get a small sub no speaker and amp will do it well on your budget imho.
The connect amp is pretty good with a sub attached, so everything below 80hz is cut from the speakers and the rest goes to an active sub.

I usually look for second hand too but these could be just what you're looking for I’d like some speakers that are bassy if possible.

I've got a pair of these as front left and rights as part of my AV set up.

Also use them for stereo listening.
Bass is pretty epic.

ETA they're cheaper at Richer Sounds (reviews on there echo my feelings about them).

I have a Sonos connect amp driving some mission speakers, a Sonos soundbar with a REL sub in my living room. Not sure of model numbers as the guy who installed it recommended the parts but it sounds ok...not great on punchy/squelchy bass but fine on atmospheric stuff.
In the kitchen we also have a Sonos connect but with a soundbar and ceiling speakers. Ceiling speakers are awesome! Would consider this option plus a sub if possible.

If you like sonos and Spotify a pair of play5 gen2 in a stereo pair sound pretty good , I tested some pretty expensive B&W and a decent amp and I ended up with a pair of play5s , (I added a Sonos SUB to be fair) I love the convenience of the sonos stuff and have added speakers all round the house now.
You can easily do this for way way less than 1k.
I have transmission line Rega floor standers in my 5.1 setup. The technology is typically very neutral, so add a new sub from Richer Sounds for your bass needs. Couple with a quality budget AV amp (only low output needed for TL speakers, but you'll need to pass a signal to the sub) & you'll have plenty of change especially if only stereo is required.

Depends, I put myself in the same boat of wanting some nice speakers and not wanting to blow all my cash.
Ended up with a pair of B&W DM603's and a Cambridge Audio A500 amp (because I wanted a remote for the volume) with an KEF 30b powered sub in the livingroom and in my bedroom an pair of Whafedale 9.1's and a CA A1 Mk3. Each now fitted with a Chromecast audio. I've also got a pair of crappers in the kitchen which sound fine against frying onions or the fan oven.
You could get the whole of the above for a grand as the only thing ingot new where the 9.1's from Superfi the rest where used off eBay or the AVforums.
I'm sure others would look in scorn but I'm happy as a happy thing.
