Has any one had experience of them?

Cheers!

I live in Forest Row so know it well. I've never used it but have heard good things. They always have a great selection of classic bits in. If they're being trusted with DB5 and 6 restores, my gut says you'll probably be OK.

Chris.

NEWLANDS WORKSHOP FOREST ROW.

I have been a client for many years of Mark Chatfield. I first met him at his PROTRAN WORKSHOP Brighton when I had an imported 1966 Shelby Hertz GT350 Mustang. It had a lot of USA made issues which appeared after it had arrived! Mark did a terrific job in correctly sorting out the many difficult and complicated problems of that engine and related trouble spots.

Mark and his colleague are extremely knowledgeable and leave nothing to chance when dealing with your car. The bottom line “absolutely 100 % thorough”. That’s why he is now working a miracle on my sickly MGB, I wouldn’t trust anyone else!

Are these the same premises once used by a famous 1960s racing team, Felday Engineering ?

If so, obviously not surrounded by houses in those days and I think the forecourt was then gravel, not concrete.

( I tried to cross reference the grid reference from the article, but without success. )

Would you use these guys for modern Gaydon cars? Happy to do so if others have had good experiences.

Even with top engineering skills, the snag is likely to be not having the Aston Martin Diagnostic System.
The rental for that kit is 'eye watering', so only the specialists handling a sufficient number of AMs can justify it.

What happens when a company with it goes bust? Or is it just rented?

Note that AMDS is only as good as the person using it, a good example being a well-known specialist who started taking the engine apart to fix a gearbox problem.... (which was later correctly diagnosed by a competent person without AMDS)

I don't know much about it. When my enthusiasm for cars began, mechanics tried to diagnose strange noises, by placing the tip of a giant screwdriver on the engine, then listening with an ear to the screwdriver handle.

I understand things have moved on somewhat now! One of the BR videos talks about a new version of the AMDS, which I seem to remember, only works if it is online to AML. I think they are rented. If you are interested, you should be able to find the video.

Nothing wrong with that, arguably better than a muppet with software but no experience.

Would they need diagnostic equipment to say change engine air filters or other service items? Would you trust them with that sort of stuff? Only ask because they’re virtually next door.
