Used Audi Q5 vs New Tiguan / XC40
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm trying to decide between buying a used Audi Q5 (probably a 2014 plate with automatic gearboxup and up to 50k milage) or leasing a brand new Tiguan or XC40.
I'm not interested in discussing the pros and cons of buying vs. leasing, but i am interested to get your thoughts on which is the better car.
If they were all brand new, the Q5 would no doubt be the superior car (with a higher price tag to match) but if it's 4 years old does this change anything? Getting a new car is nice (coming to the end of a lease myself) and you get the latest tech, but as long as I had DAB, Bluetooth and Sat nav I'd be fine.
Much appreciated,
D

Personally I'd go for the XC40. Think it's a great looking car, excellent for safety and has a really tidy interior. Q5 is a decent enough car, but there's loads around and I'd go for something unique. Volvo is nice as it's still a bit classless compared with its German rivals. Mind you, it is the smallest of the three so that could be a factor depending on intended use. Driven a new Tiguan and Q5 and both are decent cars, personally I'd go for a new Tiguan over a second hand Q5. But would take the Volvo over each of the others.

Agreed, I live a stones throw from Volvo HQ so have seen a good few of the XC40 on the road, it is a nice looking thing (particularly in the dark red).Edited by Bumblebee7 on Thursday 29th March 14:29
We (my mum) was in the exact same position as you looking at used Q5/X3 (more likely Q5), new tiguan or then the old shape XC60. XC60 interior felt a bit naff and the engines were too loud. XC40 I can't comment on but it looks great but is a little too compact for my mum so we went with a new tiguan SEL 1.4TSI DSG with a few options and it is a really nice car!
The Q5 interior for me was too dated in tech and design - too much to be spending ~£25k on a car with the same interior as a B8 A4 which can be had from £7k. The tiguan interior looks much more modern if the materials do let it down a little. but the standard kit on SEL/R-line is exceptional compared to most Q5s which are specced usually quite sparsely. On R-Line/SEL you get as standard pano roof, active info display (similar to virtual cockpit), adaptive cruise (amazing), lane keep assist, fancy LED front and rear lights with beam splitting, 8" sat nav screen with android auto/apple car play, all round parking sensors, tri zone climate, heated front seats, emergency braking etc etc
The XC40 interior does seem a step up though but I have never seen one in the flesh - it seems like a more expensive proposition though spec for spec as the tiguan is quite loaded as standard on the two higher spec levels

Have a sit in all 3, audi interior is nice but I don't think a 4 year old audi will be better than a brand new VW. The volvo has a lovely interior and unquestionably the best seats, they always have done. Take a test drive in all 3 and see what feels easiest to live with. For me the audi was nice inside but button layout wasn't that self explanatory. Sure it felt well built but I personally felt like I was having to look away from the road to change things like heating and radio.
Similar shopping list considerations for me over the last couple of weeks.
Both my brothers have new XC40s on order. They got good deals on the launch edition which has the T5 specification. (I think that's what it is).
I was going a different route and aiming for an Alfa Stelvio. The dealer didn't do a very good job and changed the terms when I went to sign and I've now just filled in the forms for a new DS7.
Feels very modern and up to date inside and out and even though the Stelvio is on 6 months old (odd) it made it feel a bit old school.
I was tempted by the XC40 but both brothers are younger. So that ruled it out for a start! Not a massive fan of the interior either.
