Hi folks

For my first proper ride out in my new Cayman, I left Newcastle for a few days in Scotland and stayed on a mate's farm near Perth for two nights and a day's fishing. After saying goodbyes, I picked up the A93 from Blairgowrie and onto the A939 old military road, coming out of the Cairngorms at Grantown on Spey. The most exhilarating drive I've ever had. The Cayman is just incredible. It flatters you and makes it so easy to drive well, or at least better than I used to. I felt myself getting to know it more, and it made me able to drive better then I have before. What surprised me the most was its ability to monster up very steep, tightly wound hills like it was flat ground. I then headed south to Glencoe for a night, just because Glencoe is awesome. I hope you like the pics.

Some cracking roads there and great pics. I haven't taken the 718 on the old military road yet but it handled the roads around Glencoe with aplomb. I'm looking forward to the better weather and will no doubt crack Skye, the Bealach na Ba, Ullapool etc.

Enjoy your Boxsters and Caymans whatever the flavour.

Many thanks for your post and great photographs - - We’re touring Scotland in our BGTS in September, including a fair bit of the North Coast 500, and this thread has whetted my appetite for it!

Great pictures, car looks mega and clearly you had a blast!

I live on the edge of Edinburgh and sometimes it is easy to forget there are some great roads more or less on our doorstep and away from the pothole ridden mess that are the urban streets here.

Excellent.... I’m sure that it’s great companion on those roads - appropriate size and performance that you can fully take advantage of. Congrats... you’re doing it right.

Stunning scenery, love that colour......would have sounded better in a 981 though!!!!

I’ll be doing the same next week, just what these cars were made for!

Great pics.

I'm heading up there myself in a couple of weeks to do the NC500

I'll have to get good at avoiding potholes from what I'm hearing.

The potholes are worst on the A9 and A82, in my experience. Some of them are more like potcanyons.

I love the sound of the car, and so does everyone else. I did around 20 hours of driving, windows open every mile of the way just to listen to it. The radio/music player remained unused.

Make sure you have your alloy and tyre insurance as the potholes on the roads in Scotland at the moment are shocking.
Hopefully repairs will start soon but I would be reticent at the moment to risk your cars on these roads.
You can survive at about 50 but if you're pushing on a bit and hit one expect some damage.

I’m looking to be up in Scotland this year in my 981 CS and my best mate in his Cayman R.
We’ve done Wales a few times but after seeing a couple of Henry Catchpole and Jethro Bovington reviews on the Scottish roads we fancy some of that too.
I do think it’s a bit of a shame that the 981 F6 noise thing has been brought in this thread, a lot has been said on it. Even I’ve said my piece but there’s no point to keep bringing it into any thread with the 718 in it. At least the guy is out enjoying his car as it’s meant to be driven.

If you and your mate do the old military road trip give me a shout - it’s not that far up the road for me and I’m itching to do it again. Three Caymans (Caymen)? blasting over those hills on that road would be a gas. Pretty sweet photo op too.

I must admit to rolling my eyes when the terminally pitiful subject of sound made its uninvited and unwelcome appearance in the thread. My car sounds completely awesome. So does yours, and so does everyone else’s.

Yes, could anyone who wants to discuss engine sound please stick to my original thread smile Even JTT managed to resist the 981 baiting lol !

Great pics, one thing I did notice is that all the road trip / long distance pics seemed to have 18” wheels. Presume much less susceptible to pothole damage / McDonalds curbs + smoother ride ?

Cheers, I'll definitely keep that in mind. We've never been to Scotland, find our way around wouldn't be much of a problem but having someone along who knows the area, roads we might not have checked out and a like minded person can only be good.
I'm not sure when we'll be up, I've got a house move to get out the way first and money to through at new house stuff. When is the best time to be there?
