Not sure that this is the best place, so Mods please feel free to move

I’m trying to identify the charities who might be interested in benefitting from an odd gift:

Late last year my mother was identified as having dementia, but rather than put her in a home we decided to adapt her own home so that she might stay there.

One of the adaptations was the installation of a full size all-in-one toilet/shower specially designed to be accessed by the disabled and their carers.

You can see the sort of thing I'm talking about here https://www.contour-showers.co.uk/products/cubicle... as cubicle 2 – it has the toilet as well as the electric shower, and there’s a fold down seat.

Sadly mum passed away this week, so the cubicle has barely had three month’s use.

It would disassemble and move fairly easily and I wonder whether it would be of use to a charity who are converting a property ready for a disabled tenant.

These things cost £2k + so I can’t bear to scrap it, but would far rather donate it to a charity.

Can anyone please suggest a charity in the south of England who might be able to find a use for it?

Many thanks

If you can't find one you could put it on eBay and donate the proceeds to a dementia charity rather than dump it.

Firstly, very sorry for your loss.

If you’re looking to donate in the south, try The Enham Trust. Based just outside Andover, it’s an independent living charity for disabled adults. Amazing place and some really incredible people there.

It’s not your normal ‘charity’ either. They run a number of businesses, the profit from which pays for the care of people who wouldn’t usually be able to afford to live in a fully supported environment, so things like the walk in shower and such are a huge bonus to them.

Hope you get that sorted a nice thing to do.

If they don’t want it please let me know, I currently work in finance in the charity sector, but in the North. I do have colleagues in the South who may be able to dig out a couple of other names to try.

Each county has a charity trust foundation (for example Mrs Puggit does work for Berkshire Charity Trust Foundation). They know the local charities very well and might be able to advise you.

Try your local university students union. My wife runs one up here, believe it or not they are all registered charities, but they don’t get well funded because everyone assumes they are businesses (they do run businesses to make profit for charitable activities like many)

Every single one of them will have a society for students living with disabilities and something like you are trying to donate I would wager would be really useful for someone coming along in September for the first time and trying to adapt (perhaps for the first time) to accommodation that does not cater for them at all

My last house had an old boy living in it, special shower, hand rails, walking sticks wheel chairs all left behind

I carefully removed it all and labelled all the screws / components up etc

Could give it away

Only thing I managed to give away was the funny high back chairs the oldies all seem to have.

Some gothic bird in her 20s wanted that for her cats

I suspect people looking at this sort of stuff don't want the bother of second hand, sad really

What a lovely gesture OP!

Diverse Abilites in Dorset are a charity that my brother has been involved with since he was two (now 20). They have restbite homes and also supported living. Fantastic charity.
