Random round-trip GPS app?

Hi all,

Does anybody know of a GPS app that will suggest a random round-trip route based on a given distance? I spend a lot of time away from home with my bike and it would be so handy.

I'm basically looking for an app that will do something like Garmins Round Trip feature on their Edge Touring computers.

I use one called calimoto on my motorcycle. Might throw in too many hills, who knows?

The Garmins apparently give several options once you specify a start and end point and a distance, and show the elevation profile.

If an app like it doesn't exist, I reckon the app store is crying out for one... Time I picked up the Swift development textbook again perhaps!

Strava will plot a route for you. Is this what you want?

Pothole, looks good but minimum distance of 30 miles is not ideal, typically shoot out for 15-20 miles. Good for my motorbike though!

S100HP, I am not sure if Strava does what I want. I am looking for GPS navigation app that given the same start and end point and a distance will generate me a few random routes to choose from.

I found some options last night.

Navroute for iPhone but hasn't been updated for 2 years and doesn't get past the splash screen on my iPhone.

Routebot does what I want and works but does cost 1.99 to be able to export to GPX but you could then send to a Garmin. Can't open route in google maps so not really ideal for me, how can I follow the route?

Routeloops.com - but when you press the map button it doesn't successfully open in google maps so again not ideal for me. You can't see the elevation profiles sadly. Would be possible with a bit of faffing to download as a GPX and convert and send to a Garmin... However see below.

Garmin Connect allows you to create a random route exactly as I want to, and send to a Garmin straight away. Can't seem to open the route in google maps or export it though.

So I think it's time to get a basic Garmin... But it doesn't have to be one with the RoundTrip function, as you could send the random route from Garmin Connect app to even a basic Edge 25 with the simplistic turn by turn directions. And I can get one second hand for £40...

At least then, at last, when I'm away from home I'll be able to create quick round trip of my chosen distance and head out quickly rather than study the area on google maps.
