Water transfer printing
Discussion
Has anyone tried water transfer printing for the air boxes and air filter cover?
I'm toying with the idea of either just respraying the airboxes or perhaps trying a water transfer carbon effect. Has anyone done this? Any issues with heat?
Quite tempted to have a go myself with one of the kits as these seems to be a lot cheaper than getting it done and it doesn't seem there's anyone close to me.

I spoke with www.wickedcoatings.co.uk about doing my air boxes back in 2016 after they had done a Range Rover for a well known car repair show
The quote came back as £150-£200 so I left it, but would be interested if you find a self apply kit that works well
Talking of all things Carbon, I also spoke with www.actproducts.co.uk about the Carbon splitter they did for a Cerbera trying to get some pictures of it - but they never managed to find any to send back to me so I didn't follow that up either

I 've had a couple of Speed Six Airboxes done... appearance as good as a carbon airbox.
Also had Speed Six Plug cover, Tuscan & Sag Pedal box covers and Sag front air vent fins ... bit of a fan of hydrographic dipping but I guess it depends who does it
.

Which one is dipped and which is real carbon ?

I got them done at "Wicked Dips" in Fleetwood, Lancs . It took a few days , they have to be prep'ed, dipped and then lacquered. The original owners sold the process to the guy next door because the electricity bills were so high keeping the water baths at the correct temperature,
There was a Cerbera there having all the interior dash dipped.

IIRC First the part is treated with some chemical to help bonding . Then the particular film (be it carbon(silver, gold), dollar bills, camoflague , lots available) is placed in a large tank of warm water and the "gum" layer that the paint is on dissolves leaving the transfer floating on the surface . The item is carefully immersed through the transfer and it adheres to the part . The part is then dried and clear lacquered.

Just out of interest, does anyone here know how this process works? I’m intrigued as to how you can “dip” something and have it come out looking like carbon weave. I’m not really a fan of faux carbon fibre but have to admit those airboxes do look nice.
I think this explains the processhttps://dipthis.co.uk/process/
Interesting, I had always imagined that the item was brought up through the film from underneath. That requires a level of skill and experience from the applier; it must be possible to overstretch or contract the pattern if the speed of immersion is wrong.
Not sure how they'd do a tube or a ball where the effect is needed 360°, there would have to be a 'join' somewhere...

There's a later light blue cerbera at Neil Garners at the moment, looks like it's had a lot dipped. Rear window trim, side window trims, front scuttle panel by the wipers and the wheels. It's also got black bonnet vents, bonnet lockdown latches by the windscreen, twin headlight pods, possible also carbon dipped
