I’m in the process of buying a 997.1 as a weekend toy but will want to occasionally use the rear seats of the car for teenage daughters. Not for long journeys so the limited space isn’t a problem but the lack of rear head rests is a problem. I appreciate the car is now 12+ years old but rear head rests were standard fit on everything else 25 years ago!!

I’ve seen many threads about fitting baby seats to various 911 generations but nothing about the safety of older rear passengers. Question is whether anybody has any experience of retrofitting rear head rests to avoid whiplash? Really appreciate any thoughts or guidance.

The alternatives are a Continental GT, Gran Tourismo or Panamera, but none interest me in the way a 997.1 does if I can solve this one important issue.

Never honestly thought anyone tall enough to need a headrest could get in the back of a 911......

Panamera a great choice, btw; still has plenty of Porsche DNA.

The rear screen angle wont allow the fitment of any meaningful headrests - the backs only reach up just below an average persons shoulders - they would be in the wrong position.

A 997 cab has higher mounted back rests - but far less room also.....

There are more pressing safety issues than whiplash if putting a child in the back of a 911. If safety is a major concern for you - and I understand why it might be - then a 997 is not for you. Rear seat passenger safety is not a major priority for 911 designers and worrying about whiplash if rear ended in the back of a 997 is a bit like worrying about riding a motorbike with no gloves when you don’t have a helmet on - I would be more worried about tight squeeze, proximity of roof, hitting back of front seats etc.
To be honest I only ever put my children in mine occasionally and never worried but, having considered the issue, you would never forgive yourself if the worst happened.
