Hi,

I am looking to buy a car 1.6lr to 2lr and willing to spend around £8000. I want something which looks nice from outside as well as inside and fast. I will be driving around 10k mileage per year so i want something which is fuel efficient as well.

Some of the cars i like; BMW 1 series, VW GOLF and i like cars that look sporty.
It would be nice if you guys can recommend me some cars and their price as well as their specs.

Thank you.

May be worth putting your requirements into Autotrader and see what it throws up.
Would help you narrow down your choices and also understand what £8k can get you.

Not remotely fuel efficient and quick but no quicker than a host of other similarly priced hot hatches.

Hmm, SEAT Leon is "like a Golf" arguably the same but more sporty looking. You'll get a newer and / or lower mileage one for your £8k than you will a Golf or 1 series. Alfa Giulietta is the same but even more so.

I wouldn't recommend buying a 4 cylinder BMW 1 series for a budget of up to £8000 -

The N47 diesel engine suffers catastrophic timing chain failures and has been revised many times, the last update was in 2013/14, so you won't be buying one of them.

The petrol engined cars are bland and unrewarding to drive - the 1 series is a heavy car and the 4 pot petrol is under-powered and under-torqued for the mass of the body...they are also not particularly economical or reliable.

If you want a 1 series, the N52 petrol is a lovely thing - so a 130i hatchback, or a 125i coupe might be a good choice. Otherwise, almost any of the cars recommended above would be better than a 4 cylinder BMW.
