E46 n42 316i what is pipe on air intake case

Hi I've seen in photos like the one I've added that on the left of the air intake case a pipe is connected from a pot looking thing could anyone a bit more mechanically minded tell me what this is and any reasons as to why mine is missing I have no pot nor pipe to the case ? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

At a guess it's a take off for the secondary air pump.

Ok thanks would we say that the circular pot on the left is a secondary pump then as I'm baffled why I have nothing there at all 🤔

The secondary air pump was discontinued on the N42 around 2004 just before being replaced by the N46.
