968 CS - is it M030?

Hi all - been a while since I posted and I’m wanting to put some new front discs/pads on my 968 but searching for the right ones isn’t easy.
I know there are difference between standard CS and M030 - how would I know?

Easiest way to tell is to measure the width of your front brake discs with a tape measure through the wheels; standard are 28mm thick, M030 are 32mm thick. The calipers are mounted at the front instead of the back too IIRC...

The M030 ones are drilled, the standard ones are not.

PS - I'm pretty sure I might have a set of new/nearly new standard ones in the original box somewhere if you were interested, I'd have to double check first though and not back in UK for a few weeks.

My spares are definitely not drilled so not what you're after by the sounds of it.

Interestingly I have OE M030 disks fitted to mine, and I think they're the only disks I've ever had that never seem to show any signs of rusting, had them fitted for about 8 years now.

M030 are enormous with different calipers, you'll get a finger down the vents haha

928/944/968 'Big Black' 32mm OE M030 discs aren't drilled. The drilling of discs started with the 965 and 993 nerd
If you have drilled discs on any of the above they are non-standard.

I'm sure they are standard as I bought the OE ones myself from Porsche, p/n is 965-351-041/2-01 from here :

Just bling really aren't they? 250 bhp 944t uses that size disc without the holes.

Hard to say, was that not before the days of bling on these type of cars ??
Maybe there were reported issues with the 944t disks which let to the change.

If you have a M030 968 CS and want to keep it original then these are the disks you need in reality.

These driled discs were factory fitted on my M030 968 Coupe but the calipers were black, so well before the introduction of the Carlos Fandango bling red calipers that many Porsches have been fitted with for the last 15-20 years.

I therefore assume Porsche fitted them for performance rather than aesthetic reasons?

I'll concede on this one then!! Originally they weren't drilled for the 928 and 944T (same part no's), so I'm assuming Porsche updated the part when the 968 and Audi RS2 came along...

As I found out last week drilled are inferior to plain; it's only taken me 1 track day and 1 test day to kill a pair of Brembo 993 discs through cracking on my 944T race car. I've now swapped to plain M030 discs...

If I remember correctly the factory fitted "drilled" discs of this era were cast with holes rather than drilled and were more resistant to cracking.

Hopefully someone with better memory/knowledge than me can confirm or deny!

I’m going to pull the car out for a clean tomorrow and I’ll finger my vents to see if they’re big enough.
They do have big black calipers but someone has said in this thread the caliper is in front of the wheel which I’ve never seen before and line certainly isn’t.
Cheers all - if fingerin the vent doesn’t work I’ll measure the width.
I’m pretty sure they’re M030 but before I spend a small fortune I just needed to be sure.

Front M030 callipers are on the rear side on mine which is correct I think, I've seen the 'big reds' on the front side on a 993 though.

Here's a link to a M030 car, given its low mileage it's fair to assume they are the original items.

Discs are drilled, and front (Red) calipers are behind the axle

Aren't the 968/S2 MO30 calipers the same size as the later 944T/928S4 medium blacks?

I believe they might well be, then there's even bigger ones called 'big reds' that I think are used on some upgrade kits.
