This might be a bit specific but between the 2 TVs in the title, which would you choose and why? Anyone own either of these are care to offer up any owner thoughts?

The Freeeview Play of the LG appeals, I assume the Samsung doesn't have a similar thing. Won't be used for gaming, just general TV and the occasional film.

I recently bought an LG 49SJ810V

Freeview Play is a nice interface as is the Web OS. Mine also came with Dolby Vision.

Only thing that's disappointing is the blacks. Seems to be a common complaint about LG's non OLED panels.

I'm going to try some bias lighting as that is supposed to improve things.

Best advice is to go somewhere like John Lewis and have a play with the interfaces to see which you prefer. I did and I bought a Samsung over a LG just over a year ago (43KS7500 fwiw). Brilliant picture, great interface (my app:TV usage is probably 90:10), has freeview and freesat options + the ability to connect an external harddrive via USB if you want to record TV.

Just bought that Samsung last Saturday. Had been looking at the Panasonic EX700 and various 43" Sonys that were quite a bit more expensive (XE8005). Never really liked any of the cheaper LGs to be honest and no sales person in Richer SOunds or JL recommended them over other brands.

In the end the Samsung won based on price and design. I also felt the Samsung offered a wider viewing angle - helpful for watching from a bay window seat at 70ish degrees. The stand on the EX700 also really put me off. Nasty looking thing.

Having lived with the Samsung it for almost a week (using SKY, Netflix) these are the things I like a lot about it:

- Really attractive design, that looks good from all angles. I especially like the dark silver frame and stand
- Good handling of blacks and motion. No sign of judder, which i'd seen mention on AV forums.
- So easy to set up and integrate with Netflix, Internet etc. It walks you through it without fuss or confusion.
- good sound notwithstanding the small size of the speakers. Coudl do with a soundbar to complement it.
- Decent and intuative menu/operating system. Netflix app much better than the phone app i was usign via a Chromecast.
- £429 + 6 year extended guarantedd from RS was the icing on the cake.

My only regret is that they don't make a 43" version!

Hope that helps in some way

Thanks for that, really useful. I am heading to JL and RS tomorrow to have a play around. One question I have which you may be able to answer - on the LG they have Freeview Play which from my understanding enables you to launch catch up TV directly from a previous 7 day TV guide, so you don't have to go into the individual catch up apps (e.g BBC iplayer). Does the Samsung have anything similar to this?
