On the way back home from Essex I called in to a TVR/Lotus main dealer to look at some items for my Chimaera. They had a few watches etc but nothing special.
I thought that while I was there I would ask about servicing and parts etc.
Keeping a straight face I was told that a basic 42,000 mile service would cost at least £710.00!!!!!!
There is no way on Earth that they can honestly justify that kind of pricing policy other than that they can get away with it.
In my view , it's just taking the piss!!!
So don't pay it. Vote with your feet.

. . . and that's by no means the most expensive one you may be quoted for! Go to a few other "established" dealers and expect the one thousand barrier to be pushed!

It's a real shame that you guys (Offord) are not in my part of the world (Staffs). Your servicing menu prices look great.
You would "cream" the two dealerships in this area.
One in Northwich (Cheshire) and one in Hatton (Derbyshire).
Lots of Trevor's live up here!!

Anybody tried Ceberus Motorsport (Stuart Martin)???

They offer a mobile facility and come to you! He's an ex-TVR dealer service guy and is recognised for setting up cars for the track etc. Full 12k service per TVR guidelines (all day)for £275 inclusive and £20-30/hr after that. I am booked in with him on 21st for my 4.3 Chim.

Roar on.

I had the same prob with TVR up here, 48000 mile service stating at £700 plus whatever else they could dream up.
At least Dick Turpin had the common decency to wear a mask !!!!!!!!

For anyone in the North East Go to Darren Browns Specialist Cars. This guy specialises in quick cars, he shown me his workshop in which he had a Ferrari 355, Lambo Diablo and various Beee Emmms. So a TVR isnt really a prob.

I got a full service, oils, brake fluid, gearbox oil, diff oil, coolant, oil and fuel filters, brake adjusments, spark plugs, tracking, clutch fluid all service stuff for £350. Car came back like a dream.

Beats going to TVR and giving them access to the old cheque book !!!!!

Completed service plus a few extra jobs including replacing rear pads etc...etc. Very good job and very competetive pricing. He was a bit sloooow in providing paperwork (receipt) and stamping service card but now resolved.

The servicing prices quoted are frankly absurd. Look up http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Peter-Beech/TVR/mise.htm and you will find a factory service checklist. They are jobs that could all be done by any reasonably competent mechanic. As regards diagnostics if we are talking about V8's then the diagnostic software is not set up for them--you would have to go to a Rover dealer for this. TVR dealers are only set up for the non-V8's. Of course fault codes can be read but they are of little use in practice. The car is easy to service--very accessible--so the prices charged have no justification.

But a TVR Rover V8 is a different beast from a standard Rover V8...

'TVR dealers are only set up for the non-V8's.'

Eh? I am not understanding this...????

Range Rover V8 3.9 etc are essentially the same as corresponding TVR engines.

I have been looking to buy a Chimaera for a while and as some private cars on the market were overdue for servicing, checked with a couple of TVR dealers in the South East about the cost of a standard 24,000mile service.
One dealer in Kent quoted £1600 (yes sixteen hundred pounds)plus more if the tappets needed adjustment. On showing astonishment at the amazing price, said dealer advised they needed the car for at least 4 days. Reckon they could strip the whole car and rebuild it in that time!!
The dealer in East Sussex quoted £550.
How the hell can there be so much difference between 2 dealers in the same area of the country?

Goooooo on then tempt me....

Actually I was thinking about having the pre cats out in a few months (need to see what happens at work first). If that's something you'd do drop me an email with a guide as to how much and I'll get in touch when things settle down a bit...

Are you sure the 1st lot quoted you for the correct car? Chimaeras of all engine sizes have hydraulic tappets = no manual adjustment needed. Maybe they quoted for a Tuscan (still seems ott tho'!).
