Some time ago I heard this documentary movie being extolled on the radio, and I bought the DVD yesterday.
Absolutely staggering - people surfing waves up to 100 feet high. This has only recently become possible because of a new technique of "towing" surfers by jet-ski and propelling them (up to 50 mph) onto the top of huge waves.
The cinematography and is outstanding and I'd highly recomend the movie to anyone who's not seen it. My entirely family (none of whom are into surfing) were absolutely mesmerised by the film.

The current world record is 70ft (approx.) on the break Jaws in Maui by Pete Cabrinha. There is footage of this on the Cabrinha Kitesurfing DVD 'Metropolis' and it is truely awe inspiring.
In an interview on the DVD Pete says he basically got lucky with the size of the wave - he also won $1000 dollars for each foot in height of the wave from Billabong...

Yes - and it was all filmed. Amazing how he kept upright on his surf board. It was descibed as "like skiing down a mountain with an avalanche happening just behind you".
