EBAY scam - OMG!!!

just received an email from ebay saying I've won an item (video game) so logged onto ebay and it states I've bid on two video games (I don't even own any games consoles?!!) and that one has already been paid via my paypal account this morning (I've not even been on)

Both items are from Florida, but different sellers (I think it's the same person)

Can anyone help? tried getting a contact number for ebay to no avail

Suggest you change your paypal password in case it's been hacked. Probably also sensible to disable the information on your credit cards you have on there also your bank account details if you have them registered. Also contact PayPal.

Disconnect your computer from the internet. Scan it with a fully up to date virus package, and also lavasoft's adaware and Spybot search and destroy.

Once the computer is clean (and be absolutely sure about this, otherwise get another secure computer and do the following through that):


1) Log into ebay at www.ebay.com

2) Change your login password

3) Contact the 2 auction sellers, explaining the situation.

3) Resolve any disputes politely and fairly - offer compensation if the seller is pissed off.

4) Log into paypal at www.paypal.com

5) Change your password



I don't recommend contacting either Ebay or Paypal about this. They'll suspend your accounts, and it will take bloody ages to sort it out.

No didn't go via the link (I've had spoof emails before, but none that are in my actual 'won item's section, plus both are now saying I've already paid via paypal?!!!)

I would also use a different computer to do all this stuff as well as you havent ruled out whether your machine has been compromised yet.

Got a new type of scam one yesterday... looked like a "Quesiton for seller" email... (apart from I ask for them not in html) saying "Where is the payment for my item you bid on" ... of course the "Respond now" button (which is in official ebay mails) went to somewhere else.

It isn't their fault that you've been scammed. If you want to keep a good feedback profile, you should at least offer them a small token payment.

The security of your computer is your responsibility, not theirs, and not Ebay's.
