Picked up a car today - less than a mile form the garage the DPF warning comes up, Turned back to garage and sales man says its because its sat for a while, needs a good run up the motorway to resolve it.

Should we be concerned ? will give it a run and then see what happens. but just a tad worried....

I wouldn't have thought that the car sitting for an extended period would have an impact on the DPF.

Give it a blast up the motorway at around 2,500rpm and see if it does a regeneration and the light goes off.

It may also be nothing to do with the soot content in the DPF and actually be a faulty pressure sensor, which is quite a common failure on VAG diesels.

Very common for cars in dealerships to be run repeatedly for short period of time (conditions under which the DPF will get dirty).

personally I would return it to them and politely ask them to run it up and down the motorway several times to resolve it, and if that doesnt work then to rectify the fault.

its a new car to you and you have had it less than 24 hours, i'd be distancing myself from any blame by asking them to do whats needed to fix it.
