good Morning,

On the Day of Baselworld I contacted the two Rolex AD I do business with and made a note of interest in the GMT Pepsi. I have bought three Rolex's in two years from one of them! I called them yesterday for an update and I got the same answer. Basically have no chance of getting a GMT Pepsi for at least 2-5 years!

Enough is Enough! Life is too short for this carry on. My father passed away at 59 and did not drink or smoke. I know a women locally with terminal cancer at only 35! I am sure we all know or heard of tragic story's.

There is no way I am going to beg or hold off the experience of owning other lovely watches to play the Rolex game. I am also not going to pay ahole tax to buy watches at a premium.

I could not get a brand new Porsche GT3 so I bought a McLaren. The Mclaren is not bad lol. Life is for living and enjoying.

I am sure this bonkers Rolex game will end. Maybe I will walk past a jewellers window in the future and see a steel sports watch I will buy but until then I will spend my money else where. I won't encourage this and waist my time.

It's an odd situation but one that is always going to happen when effectively buying a SS sports Rolex at RRP is free money, for the me grey dealers normalise the market.

In a normal market the watch would be freely available but due to that demand wouldn't be where it is, no point in flipping and it would also preclude the people that can't afford/don't want to spend 7k+ on a watch and lose 20% as soon as you walk out of the door. (which is what would happen if you spent that on an Omega whose market is in a normal state yes I made the number up)

The grey market normalises that situation for Rolex in that you can have any Rolex SS you want but at a price that means you'll lose 20% when you take delivery (a made up sellers premium for illustration)

So you can have what you want but not at the free money RRP but the loss incurred upon delivery will be the same as a normalised market at RRP.

So if the OP wants the market to be normal then would he be happy to buy a Pepsi GMT II at RRP if you suffered a loss as you walked out of the door? If so then just wait for the second week of deliveries and buy a new one from a flipper the result will be the same.

As an example back in 2004 I bought a brand new unworn 16710LN for £1800 complete with stickers etc..privately against a retail of £2350 that's a normal market.

But I suspect a lot of people moaning want products to be freely available and still hold all their value, that isn't going to happen and never will.

Just buy a Grand Seiko SBGE001J to tide you over until the GMT Pepsi arrives.

Get your fella to give you a shoulder massage, and run you a bath. Life is too short for anger.

Its a fair point you make, I think the frustration is that you can get lucky and have on of the above within a month with no real logic behind it.

I got a BLNR last year after 'putting my name down' three weeks prior with an AD i'd never shopped with, I just went in, told them what I wanted and that i'd happily wait.....

I'm going to do the same with the Pepsi too and see what happens......

True, but you'd be tempted to keep the Tudor.
With the GS you'll be overjoyed when the Pepsi arrives.

Well, as you've hinted, vote with your feet. Rolexes do look nice but not that nice to be worth the RRP - but they might be worth it to many.

Dead right enough is enough.

If Bentley/ Porsche or Aston Martin made a brand new highly desirable model but told their customers they would not get one for 5 years. Would you wait? Would you f**k by then we could all be flying around on magic carpets! (okay okay ...ste analogy!)

Its a watch thats all, all be it a nice one. Get a life, there are a lot better nicer ones out there and brands that will treat you with respect too.

Fingers up to you Rolex you will never get a cent out of me.

The irony about Rolex watches being hard to get is that the windows of every Ramsdens, Pawn Broker, and back-street jewellery shop through out the country has dozens of them for sale. All lined up in their green display cases in their gold and mother-of-pearl loveliness.

Globally there must be millions of these 'exclusive' watches for sale at any time.

Very Nice watch but my absolute loathing of Tudor 'Snowflake' Hands would mean I would have to replace the hands immediately. frown

I take a slightly different view.

I bought a DJ when I was 25 and was happy with that as my one and only watch. Then as I got older, wiser and had more disposable income I wanted something better so went into a dealer and as luck would have it they had a Submariner so I bought that. Over the years I also got to hear all the noise about Daytona's and how they were hard to come by and so wherever I was in the world if I walked passed a dealer I'd pop in and ask if they had one. 3 years ago I walked into the same dealer I'd bought my Sub from and asked if they had one. To my surprise the answer was yes but they couldn't sell it to me unless I was an existing customer. Aha, I said, I am. Bought the Daytona there and then.

I do the same thing now with the Ceramic Daytona. One day I'll get another nice surprise or I won't. You can get upset if you can't find what you want or you can occasionally get an unexpected surprise. You just have to look at things differently. Life's too short to fret about things you have no control over.

Rolex make around a million watches a year, all of which will last a decent amount of time, so if a few years Rolex is going to be pretty common on second hand watch sites. If you make a million of something a year, then making lots of any new model is quite easy, so they're clearly restricting supply in an attempt to drive exclusivity.

I understand what you are saying. I agree it is not worth getting upset about. I am a little frustrated. I am now in a position to afford these watches and also Rolex now offers watches I want to own e.g..

1. No date Sub I have always liked.
2. I never really loved the previous Daytona's and did not give them a lot pf attention. I am not a fan of the new black dial either but when I seen the new white dial with contrasting bezel and sub dials I though WOW!
3. I used to own a Pepsi and sold it to buy a Rolls Royce. I loved the white gold Pepsi but would not pay the money. Now there is a steel Pepsi with jubilee bracelet.... again WOW!

I would like to buy all three of these watches if they are available. So frustrating! However life goes on. Have a nice weekend folks!

I agree the whole waiting list thing is frustrating. But, if you want one, why not just stick your name on the waiting list, forget about it, and be pleasantly surprised when you get the call.

I remember the days when every Ernest Jones windows display had shiny new Subs, and GMT's on show (but not Daytona's).
