BMW F30 330D X Drive Front Suspension Clonk!

Don't know if anyone else has experienced a clonking sound from the front suspension? It shows up on uneven (that's most roads in the UK at the moment!!) surfaces as a fairly quiet but insistent sound. I have read somewhere that it could be drop links, shock absorbers or the steering rack but if anyone has managed to pin this down it would be appreciated?
