Not enough work to do (At all)
Discussion
Hey All!
So I am using an alias for this one for obvious reasons. Long and short of it is that in my current position I have very little to actually do. Been here a decade now and the role has changed and changed and changed and now I am given a weeks work to do and I have it done inside two hours. If I concentrate and put my mind to it the whole weeks work can be done by Monday lunchtime.
That, added to the fact I work from home means that I don't even speak or see any of my colleagues for weeks on end. I asked for more work but I was told I have enough to do already
I am going down a very dangerous path of netflix OD
Problem is I don't even like the job but its a VERY good screw with outstanding pension/healthcare/other benefits. Jumping ship does seem a silly thing to do as I wont get anywhere near the current rate or benefits.
Not really sure what to do on this one!

If changing role doesn't have any financial benefit to you, and you are happy the current one is not ruining your future employability, then how about you use the time for something else?
If I could do my work in one morning and still get paid well, I'd be involved in all sorts, not watching Netflix. What interests you - is there a voluntary role you could take on that you'd enjoy? Anything from being a local councillor, to doing the organising for the local cycling club? Dial-a-ride?! Buying an old car to restore would be fun?? A sport you've never tried? Learn a new language?
Alternatively, if you really just want more to do in your job, explain to your line manager that you really can take on some more work, and can you help him/her with something?
Also, got any jobs going?!

To answer some of the questions...
Although there is an office to go to, I haven't seen my boss in about 6 months because he works in another country. As for hobbies, any suggestions. I mean I am a computer nerd but I cant stray too far in case some "Emergency" comes up. I am effectively "stuck inside"
I would like to retrain and reskill. I guess I could do some online courses, but moving on would have to be an absolutely awesome package (You just dont get the packages these days).

Same with me - hence my PH post count! It's absolutely astonishing how the 'phone won't ring for hours - until the moment I wander away from my desk.
I'm at about the same length of time too - 10yrs. Looking back I wish I'd done something like building my own house.

Gardening, home gym, cooking excellent food from scratch, brewing. Forward calls to your mobile and you can be back at your desk within 30 seconds from any of those!Sheepshanks said:

Loads of online courses... some free (if you don't need the certificate)... e.g. aiAlthough there is an office to go to, I haven't seen my boss in about 6 months because he works in another country.
