Wind noise...

At speed, I seem to be getting a lot of wind noise at the back of the side windows. So much so that the wife asked me if her door was shut properly!

Well, it was, and I have checked the seals and they seem to be ok, and now I've run out of ideas!:confused

Now, I am sure that they all do that, but I am convinced that it is getting worse somehow. Any thoughts gratefully received...

Check to see if the door stricker hasn't moved. The one on the door can float about if the two countersunk fasterners become loose, this will also put the door fitting out.

Have a look and have a play about with a few different settings.

I think you'll find they all do that, it just proves that you're driving it properly.

No where near as bad as when the bonnet fastener threatens to break, and you can see into the engine bay .... this only seems to happen at 140 +

We had the same problem. If you look at the rubber seal at the back of the door opening half way by the B pillar, where the same seal moves from touching the glass to the door you will see there is a small gap, this lets the air in at speed causing the noise. This is because the fibreglass lip on the body that the seal attaches to seems to change direction too soon. I know that sounds a bit odd, but have a look at the base of the window & hopefully you’ll see.
After checking the striker plates like Extra 300 Driver said & checking the door alignment, which were slightly out, I found the passenger side was much better than the drivers. So I took the door panel off & found there were some washers between the rear window runner channel & the door, which effectively moved the rear of glass closer to the car, closing up the gap. So I tried the same on the driver’s door & it worked
If you try it you will have to experiment with the number of washers as too many stop the window going up because there is more drag on the rubber. I also now have the slight problem that if the window goes all the way down I have to pull it up by hand whilst pushing the up button, but it’s better then the wind noise…

I've also heard that the door glass can move slightly away from the car due to the pressure differential. Apparently later Cerberas and Chimeras have some holes in the boot near the rear wall to enable the pressure to equalise, thus reducing the effect. Has anyone seen these holes?

My old, older Cerb had a couple of holes/vents at the bottom of the rear window. My new, newer Cerb doesn't have these and i've not seen any other vents in the back, but i've not really looked.
Niether of my Cerbs have had this wind noise problem.
