So I'm doing a lot of driving on roads which have recently acquired new speed camera signs. The speed limit is 30 so I'm doing 30, if the speed limit is 50 I'm doing 50 and so on.

So why do other drivers insist on driving right up my rear end in the inside lane instead of overtaking if they want to break the speed limit and risk 3 points and a fine.

It should also be noted that a good percentage of these drivers are drivers a car which has four rings and white, this may or may not be relevant.

Your speedo underreads and there’s tolerance in the measurement by the camera. Others are taking greater advantage/gambling more than you.

I've always wondered why in average speed zones sometimes I seem to be quicker than traffic and sometimes slower. I think it is that speedos are not pinpoint accurate so where mine says 50 and I am doing 48 someone elses says 50 and they are doing 52. Also, some people play the game of +10% is fine and set cruise control to say 52/53.

Many will be using the speed reading on the sat nav . They also drive like bell ends , it's a speed limit not a target .

Others value their time more then you, and are willing to risk points/fine in exchange for shaving minutes off their journey.

The definitive reason......

They want to do 42mph, EVERYWHERE.

Highlighted the important bit for me.
This peeves me off loads.
I drive a steady pace to the gf's and back in no particular rush and on several instances, when I pull out to overtake a wagon for instance, the car that has now caught me up just sits there up ,y ass instead of using lane 3. It's ridiculous

also the average cameras dont see their front plate if they are up your chuff.

I usually set the cruise for a sat nav 52 in a 50 limit

I think you're on the wrong forum :-)
I prefer to see it as a minimum unless hazards or road conditions make that unsafe.
I'd hate to be a grumpy old sod holding people up for no good reason, otherwise I might as well use a pushbike or a horse.

The ones that I really don't get are driving 5 yards behind an artic / truck of some kind. No view of anything except the truck, no idea of the road coming up, no warning if the truck has to brake until the lights come on!

See it a lot on motorways and always wonder what's in their mind as they tootle along with a trucks arse the only thing they can see!

I was guilty of this with a 85mile a day commute, especially at 5.30am. The mpg I could get was astronomical & really added up. boxedin

Cruise set at 57 for a 50 sees me sail past most. Plenty of practice between Notts and Sheffield when they were "upgrading to smart motorways"

No points...

Apart from seeing my Mum, the only good thing about going to where she lives is they have some signs that flash up your speed!

According to those my latest acquisition is doing 27mph when the speedo says 30 - so when I join the M3 on the way home with its 50mph average cameras I know setting cruise for 55 won't get me a ticket! laugh

But judging by the speed of others I'm usually going a bit quicker than most - apart from the "didn't see it" or "don't care" brigade! laugh

My company vehicle has 4 speedometers. 2 of them are sharing the same info. One I have calibrated another is getting the info from GPS with RTK, so it should be bob on. They all give different readings.

I have been driving for over fifty years. Somehow I seem to have missed the bit where it says I need to drive at a speed convenient to the driver of the car behind me.

Does this make me a grumpy old sod?

No. But when they do it to me my speed drops by 2 mph or so... guess that does make me the grump old sod (my ex's favourite name for me)

It's simply the law.

Section 14, subsection 2, of the EU Country of Manufacture, Driving Behaviour Rules
All Audis must travel in the right hand lane of any dual carriageway or motorway at all times (the "German" lane).
If forced by circumstances beyond the pilot's control, such as speed limits, to occupy a different lane, all Audis must tailgate the poor bd in front.

After all, the German motto "Foreskin durch Technik", in English means "Computer controlled dick".
Stands to reason.

PS, Other German cars are available - between 5.30 and 6.00 this morning on the A1 southbound, 2 lane stretch, I followed a 14 plate 5 series BMW for 25 miles, his speed varying between 60 and 75 mph in a 70 limit, but he never once left the German lane - he couldn't, it isn't allowed. Simples...

I do hope not, firstly speedos from a manufacturer must never under read but may over read, secondly it would be a separate C&U offence by the driver.
