Is there anything non-destructive I can do to shush it? I think it's a 320d. Sounds like a constant single loud beebping, starts and stops every so often.

Any advice greatfully received.

Could a door/boot be open? Try them all then close it for them if so. Problem should be solved.

We tried that, cheers. I've read that sometimes the e46 thinks a bonnet sensor/switch fails and tells the car it's being broekn into, but I can't get the bonnet open.

Bonnet switch for sure. Mine did the same until I disconnected it.
I thought it was a fly inside the car setting the alarm off but not the case.

It's been relatively quiet today so far, one minor fit of beeping an hour ago.

That's the utterly pathetic excuse of an Alarm in the E46.. as others have said, bonnet switch needs ripped out and binned - problem should then be solved!

To be fair the switches are now quite old.

Mine went last year. £20 later and the alarm has been silent.
