My wife has just checked her online banking and it seems that due to a system error her account has gone overdrawn and as such caused finance payments to bounce.

She was trying to pay the balance of her credit card online from her current account and the system errored and said it the transaction had been unsuccessful and please try again later.

Anyway it seems it hadn't been unsuccessful and has gone through 3 times. Long story short, she's now over her overdraft limit as a result of this and has now had car finance ong woth another direct debit bounce.

The bank error is easy to resolve however what's the deal with credit rating? We are just about to go for a mortgage application and this could cause real issues if it flags as missed payments through no fault of her own? Is that likely and how do we reverse it?

Cheers

You may not be able to have it reversed. It's not the finance company's fault that the payment was late either so they wouldn't be obliged to remove a late payment marker from your wife's credit report.

If you haven't already done so, contact the finance company ASAP and pay by other means. You might find that a payment that is only late by a few days will not result in any late payment markers.

If that's not possible, contact the bank to make a complaint. This may take time to resolve and once the bank admits liability the best they might be able to do is compose a letter admitting their liability. This could be shown to the finance company to try and have any late payment markers removed.
