Looking at swapping the other half’s car and we may go looking at a Focus 1.0 eco boost, ST line tomorrow.

She only covers about 5k miles a year round town, what do you think?

The engine will explode.

Its been a big thing on several consumer programs on R4 and several threads on here that the ecoboost engines are a tad fragile.

Also your post will get moved.

If it’s got warranty then it’s fine. They are a cracking looking motor in the ST line trim

Looks nice best colour imo. Are you buying it from a Ford main dealership? Check if it’s had necessary recalls as I think the engine failures were from cars losing coolant and destroying the engine but they all got re called for an uprated unit I think

Based on the photo it looks as though he's buying it from Motorpoint.

To be honest I am unsure what swap her aging BMW for.

I want something less than 3 years old that looks ok, Petrol and an auto and no more than £14k

Not bothered about MPG as very low usage.

I just want a good few years of trouble free motoring.

Will still be under warranty and you can check via ETIS if any recall work is outstanding.

There is a lot of 'noise' surrounding the whole ecoboost issue but generally they are a good engine just keep an eye on your fluids

The 1.0 ecoboost has had some issues but less seem to be going bang.

The 1.5T Focus is a much better & more reliable choice they're also the best steer in class.

1.5T Titanium X

1.5T Titanium

With your budget there are some other very smart reliable cars that tick your boxes:

Alfa Giulietta 1.4T

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Kia C'eed 4 Tech these are just as good as anything out there but come loaded with a load of kit (in 4 Tech spec) & in this case 4 years worth of Manufacturers Warranty for added peace of mind:

Civic SE Plus there's nothing in it between this & the Kia above (the Kia will ride a bit better) at which point I'd take the Kia

Mazda3 Sport Nav

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

The bargain car in this segment is the Astra you can land a very high spec & newer car than all the other Manufacturers:

1.4T Astra Elite Nav

Leftfield Option (this is in case you ever want to borrow it:

From the list above I'd grab that Titanium Focus, after that the Kia 4 Tech & finally the Giulietta Collezione.

IMO and only from having them as hire cars that engine should only be in the fiesta the focus is too big and heavy for such a small capacity engine.

5K a year and trouble free? You want the lease thread then if you're not choosy as to what it is.

Well I took it out for a test drive and was quite surprised on how it was far better than I expected.

Agreed a deal.

Mrs Whistle only uses her car for Tesco, her mums and the school run so I think it will be ideal for that.

Feels a nicer drive than the 2010 bmw 320 cab we are swapping it for.

I had a similar car for a rental for a few weeks over the summer while I was working in Essex, only in red.

I was skeptical about the engine but loved it - I’d seriously consider one for our family

It will be interesting to see what MPG it gets as the 320 auto averages 19 mpg week in week out round town.

I recently hired a couple of late model 1.0 Ecoboost Fiestas to do long trips in and was dead impressed with them. If I needed one daily, I'd buy one.
