Have a 3 series and had a national well known chain install a dashcam (professionally and out of sight). Since then error messages re drive train and no kickdown.

Asked them to remove it all and car back to normal.

Coincidence or not?

anyone else had this problem?

I am going to guess they took a convenient supply from somewhere they shouldn't or disturbed something & only noticed it when they went back in.

Be interesting to know which fuse they tapped off.

Potentially and earthing issue too, bad path perhaps.

A well known chain installed a mobile phone kit into my bosses brand new Rover 75, back in the day.

At first he thought he had a gearbox fault, it kept sting/ jumping out of gear at random points. He soon realised every time he got a text it would cause the issue.

That's some top grade EMC issues. Probably solved by just placing a strategic ferrite.

Sometimes it's not the fault of the newly installed equipment, it can be a sign of poor earth or protection in the car itself which doesn't meet expectations.
