I've been looking into buying a cheap, small hatch for a daily that's also a joy to drive. One car in particular that I keep coming back to is a Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato. Obviously kei cars are japanese and most likely imported into the UK, but is it possible to find these for sale anywhere? What's the approach required for looking to purchase one of these? They look like a blast to own!

Suzuki Ignis sport, cheap as chips nowadays. Great wee cars, light, nimble, direct.

i have a feeling these can be pretty hard to get parts for, having spoken to an owner a few years back.

Not saying don't get one, but it should be a consideration.

If you REALLY want one and no other car will do then you might be better off speaking to an importer who can search for one, there's only 3 Avanzatos in the UK and one is SORN although this route won't be cheap.

They were known to rust badly here and also the gearboxes were usually only good for 30,000 miles, and parts for the gearboxes are very difficult to get a hold of, regular parts are tricky too.

A very similar car was the Mira Classic, which was styled like a Mini with the same 660cc turbo engine.

I totally get why you want one of these, I'm a big fan but I think you might want to consider alternatives.

There's the Copen, Beat, Cappucino.

Also The Sirion Rally 2/4 is quite fun, not quite a Kei Car, also Daihatsu made the Boon X4

Yeah, I've heard of the Sirion rally before. Any suggestions on where to find those?

I ran a Daihatsu Sirion Rally 2 for a couple of years. I can confirm it was a fun little car, only 850kg and pretty quick. Very rare now though, none on Auto Trader.
