Unless you're parked on a slope leave it in gear with the H/B off, then you won't have a problem.

My Polo does the same, not sure what "mark" it is ... it's a 2007 "9N3"

As suggested, leave the handbrake if possible

Afternoon all,

The parking brake on my car is sticking on both rear drums, often after being stood for a couple of days. I appreciate that this isn't uncommon, particularly in the wet weather we've been having.

In any case, they're sticking quite heavily, with even a good rocking sometimes being insufficient to separate them.

The car is a Mk4 polo, so rear drums.

What's the best order of attack for this? After getting the wheel and drum cover off that is.
Hi, I also have a mk4 polo and had this problem and also a grinding noise when braking. I took off the drum and behind the brake shoes you’ll notice on each side of the shoes there are 3 points on each side that touch the backing plate. I put copper grease on the 3 points on both sides and reattached the shoes. As the shoes are resting on these points it’s likely a bit of rust is seizing the brake shoe and backing plate together.
