Its my understanding that its rare for a Xenon headlamp to fail, but I have had two.

I have a 63 plate Alhambra and in Nov 2916 the N/S dipped headlamp failed and it was replaced just inside the 3 year warranty.
This week the O/S dipped headlamp has failed in exactly the same way.

Initially the fault was intermittent then total failure.

The car is standard but does have a professionally fitted Blackvue Front/Rear Dashcam hardwired which includes a powermagic gadget to ensure it does mot drain the battery.

I am going to have to pay for the expensive replacement but it concerns me as to whether or not something else is going on here.....

Has anyone else had lamp failure like this, or is there a useful opinion that could offer any ideas ?

Xenon bulbs do fail but I would have expected the OEM bulbs to last longer. If the issue is confirmed as the bulb and not the ignitor / ballast then don't pay the stupid dealer prices for the replacement. You can pick up Osram or Philips replacement bulbs online considerably cheaper.

Thankyou for the quick response, whilst I am a reasonable DIYer I am not sure about getting involved with the changing of these, don't they kill people ?

I had to mess around with bulbs on my S5 quite a bit. They are a DIY change

In the end it needed a replacement ballast due to water ingress on the original

I’ve changed D1S bulbs (xenon) on a altea and yeti, both straight forward once you get access.... getting access on the altea was a pain mind.

Are there any precautions I need to take? Battery disconnect or a discharge to earth ?
If access is the only potential problem......

Plus I want to avoid the dealer because I dont want my remap reversing ....
