Hi All, I just posted this in the F10 M5 section but it would be handy to know if anybody else has had issues also, many thanks

Hi guys,

My F10 M5 that I purchased 5 months ago from Arden BMW Maidstone on 82k ( a one owner full history BMW auc approved car) has now been recovered into a BMW dealer, the power steering is cutting out it is burning oil near to a litre every 500 miles, cylinder 8 misfire due to a coil issue, a hydraulic pump noise in second when cold, lots of things.... and still the 17 plate 320d msport that I have been given feels a million years behind my car, 8 years ago I used to be a service advisor at the dealership my car is at now so I’m sure they will look after it, luckily the guy from BMW assist was the same guy that I worked with then and he run a isid then drove the car in for me as I was at work, I will keep you updated.

Kind regards
Steve

Hi Steve, sorry to hear of your woes. My car also makes a slight whine selecting second when cold. No other issues but let me know if you get to the bottom of it, so far I've been treating it as a characteristic as there seem to be others reporting the same.

Mine used to make the most awful whining noise when I put my foot down yes

I stopped taking my wife out with me on spirited drives and it stopped wobble

Mine also had a whining noise, but in all gears, when cold. Makes me think it was possibly the differential, as it was not specific to a selected gear.

Hi my 2013 M5 burnt 6 litres of oil in the first 22k km of life. BMW replaced the cylinder heads under warranty two weeks ago, am watching the oil level as I progress.

Has the oil consumption always been that bad over the 5 months ownership or has it suddenly worsened?

I wouldn't accept having to carry a few litres of oil in the car permanently and having to top up between every other tank of fuel - it would be hugely impractical.

My car is on a similar mileage and has used a litre predictably every 12k miles, falling just before before each oil service becomes due.

I have good news for you both - it’s a common quirk of the f10 m5, the pump for the DCT is a little noisy when cold but soon warms up. Loads of cars experience it and nothing to worry about.

The oil usage on the other hand... never heard of one using that much.

No oil consumption issues here. Last serviced in May 2017 and oil level is 3/4 full between the MIN and MAX indicators when checked using the Vehicle Information menu on the iDrive system

I've had mine for a few years now and never had to top up the oil between services. I hope the OP gets it sorted painlessly.

Agreed on the DCT whine when cold. Mine has it and I think it is just a characteristic of the car.

Mine has had 3l of oil in 10,000 miles. As with other BMWs I have owned it seems to use hardly any, until you get close to needing an oil service, when it drops a litre pretty quickly.
