Engine woes

Hi people,after some advice.
A friend has an ultima gtr.6.3 small block chevy.It recently went bang.It was diagnosed as oil starvation.
He drives it hard and does regular track days, he was concerned about the oil surge whenever cornering fast,braking hard etc.Is this a common problem with these engines? or something unique to his,maybe dodgy sensor?The guys who are working on it seem to think it shouldn't be a problem but if it's going to continue he'd like to look at alternatives.Any advice would be great.

what type of sump.... also does it run accusump or dry sump, I would never have used my car on track without either.

If oil surge is the correct diagnosis then it will happen again but how did they make the correct diagnosis?

Whatever the cause if hes going to be using it on track it makes sense to have a decent system installed.

i too had oil starvation problems we think it was caused by too smaller sump and no accusump,new engine has a very large sump with accusump fitted i hope this will fix problem if not will have to drive slower

Hi guys,sorry for the delay.
New questions.It's not a dry sump,not sure what an accusump is.Am i being a divvy?
The car is regestered 03 so is quite new.The sump is large holds about 7ltrs,would that qualify as a large sump?
Any info on fitting a dry sump would be greatly appreciated.Who does it,where,how much?
I'm gonna have to drag him out of the dark age and get him online cause reading this post back i sound a little dim.

It would also help to get the pick up mounted really low down in the pan.

Suspect this is Graham with my old car. I last spoke to him a couple of weeks before the trackday at which he lunched it. He was talking about rebuilding the engine then, muttering something about 480bhp not being enough.

If I'm right then it's a 'standard' American Speed engine with Canton winged pan.

Accusumps have been discussed in here before, a search would find previous posts. Also been discussed loads over on www.blatchat.com with negative views as well as positive.

Seeing as he's taking the engine out anyway a dry sump would be the way to go, and probably best to speak to the factory re fittings etc as installing in an Ultima will be different to other installations.
