This could have one of the greatest pay off lines in cinema history because if I was in a writers meeting on that script I would not be able to resist the temptation.

Its the end of the movie and The Stath is there ready to ram his cruise missile/converted sub-bomb/tin of napalm/packet of peanuts that's 2 months past its sell by date down the sharks mouth or perhaps even getting ready just to punch it on the nose. And then he utters those three little words........

"Shut Up Meg,"

Like a cross between jaws and deep blue sea.

Hopefully it’s better than the latter!

Not usually a fan of statham but I’ve noticed he doesn’t take himself too seriously in recent stuff so looking forward to this one.

I read the book a few years ago; it was pretty good and very much a 'Jaws' clone.

Looking at the trailer, it seems to have pulled some items from the book (such as the undersea lab and Meg making it to the surface), but appears to take itself far less seriously.

Could be a good 'brains out' type of film.

But I don't care. It's not as if I stood a chance - even if she was! tongue out

Embargo lifted on posting reactions prior to release. And...... they're good!

Looking forward to this one. Personally, I'm of the opinion that there is very much a place for this kind of film when they are done right.

And Jason Statham deserves an oscar for keeping a straight face whilst delivering the "It's megalodon," line seen in all of the trailers.

I saw The Meg on IMAX this afternoon.
It’s exactly what you’d expect. I’ve not read the books or seen anything more than the trailers, but nothing really came as a surprise in the whole show. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. If you can get past the demographic box ticking of the cast and setting then you’re halfway there. If you can get past the terrible dialogue then this could be for you.
Its more snakes on a plane than Jaws.

Worth a watch, just don’t be shocked when it doesn’t offer anything unexpected

7/10

very enjoyable bubble-gum movie with, I suspect, more than an eye on the Chinese market. I too watched it in 3D IMAX and thought that some of the early scenes underwater with the undersea vents/various fish/coral/etc was actually quite amazing

Ruby Rose is errrm, an interesting character - is that a tattoo of Archer on her groin?

Enjoyed it, knows exactly what it's doing and runs with it. Very entertained throughout as it seems were the rest of the audience, I've also rarely seen a screen that busy for a late Sunday night showing

Industry expectations were $20m opening weekend in the US but estimates have it nearer $50m, with a further $100m overseas. It seems we can't get enough of shark movies.
