Dual carriageway my side, single track on other side so I knew it was a 60 zone on the A303 towards Yeovile, must have still been on the brakes when caught. If I had full on panic braked ABS kicked in etc, as this was manned would they have just substituted dangerous driving for speeding

My currently clean licence may be a thing of the past, is it "boring yorkshireman pub talk expert" (every pub seems to have one) that 10% over plus 3mph is the lower limit for prosecution.........possible outcome? I'm hoping speed awareness course

Yeah it'll be speed awareness I'd have thought
pretty interesting few hours though tbh, not at all patronising like some would have you believe.

Are you sure you've got "carriageway" right?

Do you mean a three-lane single carriageway?

as above, if it was a dual carriageway ( Definition is a visible barrier.grass/wall etc between lanes going in different directions) then the default limit is 70 unless posted otherwise

If the road wacthree lanes wide from kerb to kerb with just painr seperating the traffic then it is a multilane single carriageway

It isnt the number of lanes, ( i have seen single lane d/c, used to br two lanes each side but now painted off with hatchings, BUT is is still a d/c). it is what keeps them apart that counts

Depends on who is holding the course.

Some can be incredibly patronising. A friend of mine just went on one, and the officer holding the course informed everyone that ABS reduces stopping distances.

And he's right... with an implicit caveat, that it's compared to locked brakes.

At least after the course, you'll know what a dual carriageway is biggrin

And to the extent the 10%+2 guidance is still valid, it's that tickets start there, so you'd expect not to get a ticket at 67. However, there's nothing actually stopping a ticket being issued lower than that, just that it's not likely.

I knew some pedant would pipe up about it not being a DC, and shock me it was 2cv hehe

I've done the course at Yeovilton, at least you can have a sneaky look at some navy planes on the way to the loo. laugh

In fairness, for once it's not really pedantry: the road not being a DC when the OP thought it was is the entire reason he got a ticket.

If it were a DC, 69mph would be ok.

If OP had understood it wasn't, he probably wouldn't do 69mph on it into a camera.

I do hope your 'friend' put him straight on that one, at considerable length, of course.

got a google map link so we can have a look?

Think I know the area - used to be a "suicide" lane shared between both lanes a long time ago, now it alternates in overtaking lanes.

He'll fit in well with the other attendees!

The most common comment about the courses is how clueless the other attendees are.

I'll bet it was on one of the alternating 2+1 sections of the Ilminster bypass.
There are no fixed cameras on that stretch so it would have to have been a Scameravan which he might not have twigged until too late.
Or it could have been an unmarked plod car (or bike) which he didn't clock, although they clocked him. smile

Speed unawareness course most likely. From 68 in a 60.

On it you will learn how to classify a road and what speed limits apply to each. Perhaps not overdue for you. Enjoy.

I had my £60 Dual Carriageway lesson there back in 2003. Slowed to 70mph and got photographed wink
The camera was then burned out twice before (IIRC) being removed. That's a shame..
