Just spend quite a bit on the flat that me and my Mrs live in. New kitchen and appliances, new floor, new sofa and new TV stand.

The stand I bought accommodates anything up to a 65” tv. Our current 43” one looks a bit lost. So I’ve gone out and ordered a 49” Samsung QLED. I’ve sent her a picture of a similar looking one priced at £599 when the true price of the one I’ve ordered is double that.

Previously, I’ve got away with changing the interior and wheels on my A8 without her even noticing the difference.

So ladies and gents, any stories of sneaking new purchases past your other half without them knowing the true value?

The only time i told a white lie was about the size of a TV. I wanted bigger than the old one.

We have only a joint account so no point hiding it, over a certain amount we will discuss and then buy anyway but it was discussed first. we are old though smile

Nothing that I can recall in honesty, not when it comes to anything of significant cost anyway.

I was far more likely to lie about being at work whilst I was in the boozer. getmecoat

I managed to replace my Madone 7 bike with a Madone 9.9 without the other half noticing the difference. Had to keep the same colour scheme black on black on black though. To her a bikes a bike, to me it was a 10k switcheroo.

I suspect in truth she does know, but pretends to me not too. I never ask what she spends on holidays either. I'd be scared of the truth.

Bought quite a few cars and pieces of art without the Mrs knowing. Did the same with an apartment as well that I bought at an auction unexpectedly (I was there to buy something else)

She does it with bags, shoes, jewellery all the time though so it’s swings and roundabouts I find

My Mrs tried to hide buying a £15 bottle of hair shampoo once. Don’t blame her, it’s a ridiculous amount to spend on something that lasts about 10 days.

I've been known to pay cash for the odd bit of hi-fi or car part if I might expect an interview without coffee otherwise...

My Aston Martin, I proposed to her the same week so it was a justified (hidden) purchase.

Synthesizers. I have many. A few are set up and a whole load more are stored. Occasionally I have a bit of a swap round. To the OH they're all just keyboards covered in nobs, sliders and buttons, so I can easily introduce a new one (at up to circa two grand a pop) without it looking (to her eyes at least) any different to a long-owned one that I've brought out of storage. Good times!

You spent £1200 on a 49" Samsung LED when you could have had a 55" LG OLED?

A couple I know, she cuts hair, he paints cars. He was doing my car and I got chatting to him about his latest project. He let slip he'd sunk 50 grand into the build which made me chuckle as I'd already heard about the car from his wife, who wasn't happy that it had cost him 15 grand. Thats quite a white lie!

My Fenix 5 watch, best part of £450, told her it was £150. Manage to upgrade one of my bikes too without her noticing.

Been on holiday twice with my mate without mentioning it to her...

Only stuff that I've bought for her. She has a "significant" birthday coming up this year and I will be treating her to something that she won't know the price of.
