Hi all.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a replacement passenger window motor for an E36 coupe? Window won't move (and MoT due in 2 weeks) and I cant seem to get the part from the usual online retailer. BMW seem to want £180+ for the motor alone which seems a bit rich for a small electric motor that seems to fail regularly.

Cheers,

Ben

Don’t forget to replace the nylon sliders in the mechanism. These go brittle with age and can fail (not much fun if they fail in the open position), they are cheap to buy and easy to replace, well worth doing if you have the door inner trim off. Best to do both sides if you have time. Use a suitable, light smear of, grease along the track. In fact, it may be this that has failed, although one of these nylon sliders go first, and the window drops at front or rear only, and then jams.

eBay, people breaking cars on Facebook e36 groups, try the BMW breakers (quarry, fab direct, etc.).

Had my door cards off yesterday, pass. window will only go all the way up if held down otherwise it gets halfway up and drops again. Regreased and silicone lubed the runners but no improvement. Apparently there's a bush on the regulator that causes this but I'll need to drill the rivets to get it off the door...

Cheers for the feedback. Got some new sliders. Old ones look OK though.

Looks like I'm having to shell out for a BMW motor then. Can't see any point putting a secondhand one in given their propensity for failing.
