My 7 month old looks like he's about to start crawling around don't fancy my heavy 1980's Tannoy's on speaker stands falling on him.

I just use the speakers paired with a Marantz amplifier for the living room TV.

Is it best just getting a soundbar or is there another reasonably priced solution available?

Sounds like a perfect time to upgrade to some really heavy floor-standers.....

It will depend on the child I guess, I have a two year old and some B&W 683 S2 in the living room, she has never gone near them.

They would need a very hefty push to go over.

Are you reasonably DIY handy? If you are able drill a hole in the stand's top plate then you can attach the Tannoys to their stands. if you don't want screw holes in the bottom of the Tannoys then use a threaded insert in the base of the Tannoy and a machine screw to 'bolt' them together. https://www.amazon.co.uk/FLANGED-DRIVE-FLANGE-THRE...

If you're concerned about the whole assembly toppling over then you must add a lot of weight i.e fill them with sand and preferably add extra mass at floor level. A flagstone would work but its going to look a bit agricultural; I'm sure you get the idea and can be creative about how you add the weight low down.

If you do it well then they will take some effort to push over. The stands in the following link ( with a big wide footprint ) would be fine.

thumbup They should work fine. I think these came flat pack and were assembled by the end user; this means you can take them apart, fill the legs with sand, drill holes etc. If they were fully welded stands you would be able to get them apart to 'fettle' them. Good luck.

Edit : Having thought about it.......it might be tricky to attach your Tannoy's to the top plate on the Soundstyle stands. They appear to be held together by a central tie rod and it might be tricky getting it all back together with a speaker on top.

Something where you can get access to the underside of the top plate when the stand is assembled would be better. Something like the one in the original link I posted or one of these.
