Great effort Mech, I think it needs something to give it a bit of scale. Also a focal point as it seems to merge a bit. I can definately see where you were going though
What do you mean by focal point? I don't mean to be impertinent (especially as I'm not sure I can spell it
) but what sort of thing are you thinking of? Lake

Hi,
here is my attempt at a more dramatic sky..
Lake
Nice - how did you do that?
Tools: Photoshop (as always
) 1) I started with 2 images, the original from mechsympathy and one I had from a seascape from the maldives taken at sun set.
2) using the original I created a new layer, then using the magic wand selected all the sky. Then used select -> feather to not make it to harsh, then deleted the old sky
3) Added a new layer behind the rock layer and pasted in my new sky background. Then added a small amount of gaussian blur to soffen a little.
4) Used the burn tool to dull down the rock in order to give the impression of sunset.
5) But of blur to soffen the edges a bit.
6) Added some saturation and levels adjustment to bring out the reds and yellows in the grass
7) Cropped
8) Add border
Thats about it.
Hope this helps... Any more questions just ask.
Lake
All in Photoshop.
"More impact" (warning - you may or may not like this, but you can play!)
Auto Levels
Select Sky using magic wand, tolerance 30, continous, click on sky & clouds until all done.
Select.. Contract.. 1
Select.. Feather.. 3
Image, Adjust, Variations
"More Blue" 5 times
gives this
Then, OptikVerve "Landscape" filter (www.optikvervelabs.com/) gives this
And finally
Auto Levels
Crop
Set background to black
Increase canvas size by +20 pixels
OptikVerve "Mountain" filter
The selection creates artifacts due to working on such a small image - you can obviously play with the full size one and get the selection much better!

I've just noticed the sea in the background of the second one. Brilliant (The rock is on top of the Roaches, at 1500ft
)
And who said the camera never lies?
