AAAAA-AAAAHHH
Ahem.
I'm having a bit of a flash quandry (as in a quandry about flashes, not a quandry that's over quickly).
I've got an EOS D30, and i'm wondering whaat flashes will work with it. I've got a Speedlite 200E from my old EOS 1000 that fits in the shoe but it won't fire. I've also got a generic crap flash that has a single contact in the centre of the shoeplate. That does work (if rather badly). The manual for the D30 says it only works with the 220EX 420EX and 550EX. So am i right to assume i'm limited to these three flasguns or will a 420EZ, for example, work?
Any help and/or reccommendations of good non OEM flashguns welcome.

If it's anything like Nikon you'd be best off sticking to the recommended Canon models IMHO. You'll pay a bit more but you'll know you got the one least likely to cause problems.
I have the SB800 and it's easy to get great fill-in flash in full daylight from 25 feet away and at 200+mm focal length.
'It does the thinking so I don't have to.'
Or is that the other Flash?

You will also be able to use the 580EX.
I think the EX have something different to the EZ. Certainly EX is the current series.
However, EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about EOS flashes is here: http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/
