I need a really close look at a TVR Griff or Chimaera to see if I can install a Chevrolet LS1 and T56 into the chassis. So far it all looks very promising and it's a completely logical progression in all respects. Is there anybody in the midlands that may be interested in assisting me with this kind of an upgrade. If so I can be contacted on Nottingham 0115-9196160 or at mike.johnson2@ntlworld.com. Thanks, Mike.

I don't have a TVR at the moment or I would be very interested in this. It seems to me that the Rover engined TVR's are crying out for this conversion. The all-alloy LS1 is a superb, modern engine and being built in large numbers by a very large company has had all the necessary development to ensure long-term reliabilty. I believe even the mildest versions produce something like 330bhp.

Me too. But that would be like admitting that their AJP engines weren't very good. PW will never go for it.

Superb modern engine? Still a nasty old pushrod, relying on pure capacity to get the power...

funny that danny :

Lambo Murcielago 6.2 litre
Porche Carrera GT 5.5 litre
Mercedes SL55 AMG 5.5litre
Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3 litre
etc
etc

it certainly hasn't stopped most of the sophisticated engine manufacturers reducing their capacities.

theres no substitute for cubic inches or simple design for that matter, imho of course

Danny, no way is this an old fashioned pushrod engine relying on capacity for its power. Just check out a few web pages, mine included or get the October edition of CCC for a feature on the Le Mans winning Corvettes. It's really very sophisticated, ultra reliable and mega powerful to boot plus ALL aluminium. One of the Worlds Top 10 new engines! Look at the cometition it would have faced to achieve that accolade. Easily comparable power & torque wise and in many ways superior to the the 32 valve Lotus designed LT5. Technology marches forward all the time. Mark my words, this engine has a very bright future ahead of it. Long live the mouse, well this version anyway. Mike

I read quite a bit about it. It's still a push rod engine, even if it is all ally. The Rover engine is all ally too though. The reason they went for push rod was to save development costs since they had almost gone bankrupt. I'm not saying it's no good, but it's hardly state of the art? Claiming the highest bhp/litre for a 2 valve engine on their main hype page is kind of missing the point.

Having said all that, I'd still be interested to hear of a Chimaera/Griff transplant - don't doubt it's easy to get a good 400 bhp out of it.

Are you blind to smileys? I said ""! I just didn't think a pushrod was a great modern design that's all.

I saw Julian at Joospeed the other day. We looked at a Griff on his ramps. I reckon I can do this conversion with either the T5 or with a bit more work a T56 could be used. I am certain it's a viable conversion. More power with more reliability. I plan to do a dummy install with an stripped out engine before undertaking a full blown conversion with a Z28 or Z06 unit. Mike.
