Hello all!

I have been a member of the Lotus Esprit forum for several years, but sadly, I just sold my pristine '85 Turbo Esprit.

The upside is that last Tuesday, I took possession of a pristine, one-owner, 17k mi., Guards Red/Saddle '00 boxster w/ 18" Turbo wheels and Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. I live in Minneapolis, MN, USA and the Boxster was located in St. Louis, MO. I flew in to St. Louis to pick it up and drive it the 650 mi. and 9.5 hrs. back to Minneapolis, a great way to bond with the car.

So far, I am Mega impressed. It is fun, well engineered, comfortable and the top drops! It is world's away from the Esprit, not better/worse, just different, certainly more modern. The only issue the car has is the battery was changed prior to my picking it up, without knowing that it wipes out the Radio code (which wasn't included in the owner packet). I am scheduled into the local Porsche dealership on Wednesday to correct this.

I have done complete mechanical/cosmetic restorations on several Esprits and other Lotus in my time, and plan to do as much of the work on the Boxster as I am able. I have owned a 911 and 912 in a past life, so am not too unfamiliar. I just purchased the complete set of manuals today. I own most every tool, so I don't plan on much difficulty (are there any 986 specific tools which are must have?).

That having been said, I am definitely at the bottom of the learning curve. I have lurked this forum for a few weeks and am impressed with the knowledge pool here. I'll try to keep the PITA factor to a minimum with all my silly, dumb, newbie questions. Anyway, just wanted to say Hello!
Happy Motoring!... Jim '00 Boxster

Chimburt,

I appreciate your salutation! I have been a regular contributor to the Lotus Esprit forum on PH for several years. I think I'd have to agree with you, especially by comparison, it does seem a bit Chilly in here. Still... happy to be here

Hi, Jim.

I sold my '87 HC Turbo in December.

I bought a TVR Griffith, but sold it after 5 months because I didn't get on with it.

I have been pondering what to get next and it has boiled down to:

1. Another Caterham
2. A Ferrari 328
3. A Boxter S
4. An aircooled 911

It will be interesting to see how you get on with the Porsche after a S3 Turbo.

Bet you can't fix the Porsche by thumping the dashboard....

Enjoy.

Cheers

Pat
