Since the internet is a source of absolutely everything, I figure that there must be an online source of short score/lead sheets for popular tunes.

I've just got a bit lazy and can't be bothered to figure out chord progressions.

Anyone got any ideas? Sheet music is so expensive I refuse to buy individual tunes out of principle.

I've used this site several times. Most things are written in concert pitch, so I just transpose them. But they've got plenty of standard's chord progressions.

The Songtrellis one was pretty much a load of fake books dissected which was nice. The problem is that the current catalogue of standards runs out about 1975 according to my collection. I was looking for something fresh to butcher.

The tab site! I have never had so many pop up windows.

guitar music is dead easy to get off the net for free. Piano sheet music on the other hand is a nightmare.

I found a site where I can sample the 1st page so I use that to get the groundings and ear compose the rest of it.

www.olga.net has a huge range of popup free guitar tabs. There are also a load of chord progressions on there which may help

I recommend trying to figure out some Coldplay songs by ear.

I found reading the stuff hard enough!

I use guitar tab sites like this one. Gives you a basic chord progression, you should be able to work out a key, the basic melody and some twiddly bits from that

But I can't be arsed learning things note for note

I gave up bothering with full score ages ago- too lazy. Tabs are generally a bit skinny with the detail of the voicings. eg:- just "G". I suppose I should sit practice getting my ear in again. It used to be but then my sight reading went to poo so I've been working on that too much.........

on the subject of, i need to find the tablature for 'Goodbye To Love' (by the Carpenters if you haven't heard of it) just can't find it anywhere,
and yes i am too tight to buy the sheet music.

I think a lot of the problem with modern music is that the chords are thin anyway. I've just been knocking out some Spice Girls (In a standard kind of way) and it sounded thin and crap. If you beef the chords up, it sounds wrong. There are some gooduns though. Some of the Joss Stone numbers are definately standard material. Coming to a restaurant near you

got it, thanks. trying to arrange some nice ballads for a band outside work. have a feeling this solo will be 10x harder than Bohemian Rhapsody though!
