A question for the Sports Scientists and 'pain cave' dwellers out there!!

If you are doing a training session that is going to run your tanks empty is there any training benefit in fuelling part way through the session or is it more beneficial to run yourself to empty then feed at the end of the session? I am thinking of the longer sessions of say a couple of hours.

Ta in advance.

What are your goals? Weight loss? Endurance training? Strength training?

I would like to build my endurance, I am currently doing some longer sessions up to 2 hours mostly at 80% FTP with some intervals thrown in, I can manage 2 hours with just water. I use the trainer (Tacx Neo) every other day, sometimes I do a 1 hour steady session on recovery days.

I am 60 years old and had a double heart bypass 4 years ago, my cardiologist is quite happy with what I am doing! My FTP is 2.5kW/kg and my 15 second sprint is around 6kW/kg so not going to worry the professionals!!!

Thanks in advance!

Yes I do, I can redline it at 165bpm, I didn't damage my heart when I had my heart attack and the bypass grafts are bigger diameter than normal so in effect I have been 'chipped'
