Contract & umbrella company
Discussion
Gents,
Wondering if anyone can clear something up for me.
I was approached about a role, 6 month contact, good rate of pay and it piqued my interest.
Only issue is that the agency that have approached me about the role, say that I will only be put forward if I agree to work through 1 of 5 pre selected umbrella companies.
I am trying to establish whether this is a demand they can actually make, or whether they are playing a fast one and trying to push into an agreement. I suspect they get some kick back hence the insistence.
I also dont know whether this will complicate things from a tax point of view? A I have my own LTD and take a salary from that as well.
The role would be at a Government run agency - so unsure whether that influences the requirement to work under an umbrella company?
Opinions appreciated!
Thanks

If you're working via an umbrella you won't be using your Limited Company:

Maybe the Government Agency won't take you on direct via your Ltd due to IR35 issues.

I used to work via an Umrella Company. All was good until about 2 years ago when new policy kicked in and you could no longer claim travel expenses - despite my job involving travel to numerous different sites.
The government are doing their hard best to crush the little guy. In the meantime, big corps decide whether they do or don't pay tax and dictate...

I was always under the impression the agent could make the use of a particular umbrella a contractual requirement and the contractor could either choose to accept it or decline the contract. Or, if the contractor was in some position of strength, argue the toss and hope the agent didn’t then pass it on to someone who didn’t mind so much.
