I'm after a: comfy, auto, reliable commuter (into London LEZ). Cheap as possible.

I do a minimum of 80 miles a day. Currently driving a 2l petrol focus. A similar size boot would be good, more mpg would be great.

I'm after recommendations. I have some ideas but always feel I'm overlooking some cars.

It depends on how much you want to spend?

we're going to sell her Honda CRV which should get 3-3.5k but ideally under 2k.

Reason for change (from focus) is purely to get an auto. i've been thinking about older diesels, as it looks like euro 3 is fine for LEZ

Take a look at the CLK/C Class 220/270 they're great commuter cars, but check the LEZ requirements as it may be going up to Euro4 if certain people get their way.

How long will you keep the car? If you propose to keep it for a while, you should consider the ULEZ Ts&Cs.

If it's to serve more than 2 years, and if you want a diseasel, you should be looking for a DPF equipped car.

Personally, I think I'd be looking for a Mondeo, Focus, Accord or Avensis Euro 4 petrol because for £2000, the age of the car is not so important, the condition, reliability and likely cost of maintenance will be...maybe a Skoda Octavia or Superb?
