Discussion
After a recommend on here I've been using a number from Soho66 and an voip app to receive calls. Which has worked fine but has limitations (i.e. dropping calls when already on a 'normal' call, drops when out of signal etc). Plus I'm going on holiday soon and the app is to be withdrawn from use later in the year.
So I'm looking for a slightly more robust solution. I think a physical voip phone at my desk which will divert to mobile if I'm out is the right answer. So I signed up for Vonage the other day at £10/m or something, and everything seemed good, but I saw someone on another thread saying they had a supplier which was free (I think to receive calls only).
I use mobile for outgoing so don't need a calls package.
Want to retain the existing number.
Want a physical phone which diverts when necessary.
No apps.
I didn't get a phone from Vonage, just the box thing. And I pay someone else for the number. What is the £10/m for? Is there a free solution?

Thanks. I checked Voipfone and the guy was really good, and they're cheaper. Soooo, my next question is, the adaptor which arrived today from Vonage- can I be cheap as f
k and reconfigure it to use Voipfone service?
Voipfone wanted £50 for theirs, but the Vonage one came free with the first tenner payment.

There is, but it appears to come with a BUT.Sipgatebasic https://www.sipgatebasic.co.uk/ - is free to use BUT (for my use) it would cost £30 to port in your existing number https://basichelp.sipgate.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/... assuming your provider supports this.
Might meet your needs?
Yes, Sipgate Basic is PAYG. Comes with call divert and also voicemail. Pennies per call. No monthly fees.
Set up an account and add a tenner. They write to your address for verification for 999 calls then you can verify the account.
At the set-up screen you add a 'local' number or search for an easy to remember number, if there are any left.
You can use Sipgate Basic with a VOIP app on mobile, like 3CX, or with a desktop phone like a Grandstream GXP1610 if the router has ethernet. (£30)
Also with ethernet you can add a pair of Powerline/Homeplug adapters so you can put the phone where you want.
With Sipgate (and presumably other providers) you can add two or more phones to the same login, then they all ring at the same time.
Mine has been working with no problems for three years or so, on a Grandstream phone.I've just added a second 'London' Sipgate number to the phone as it supports two 'lines', so fancy-shmancy city-folk can call at local rates.
