Afternoon all,

Does anybody know what this thing is in the pictures? It's on the northbound carriageway od the A21 Sevenoaks Bypass near the Hubbards Hill bridge.

Is it a speed camera? I may have passed it a bit too quickly frown

Doesn't look like one, but these cameras can be used by police if there's another one nearby to work out your average speed and confirm you were speeding (I think this only applies if your stopped whilst on the road).

I.e if it's a 70mph zone - the cameras are ten miles apart if they can show you got from Camera A to Camera B in less than 8 minutes and 34 seconds, i.e say you got their in 6 minutes 40 seconds they could use it as evidence you were doing 90mph.

This would never be used in that circumstance. They may calculate a rough speed if you had a crash and killed someone though.

I doubt it, The two cameras on the ends of the lower cross arm look remarkably similiar to these.

They are not used to catch speeding LUL train drivers. smile They are used for site surveillance/security.

I'm not sure what those on the upper one are for.
I vaguely recall seeing something similar but can't remember where or when.
An niternet search hasn't thrown up anything so far.
Positioning/orientation doesn't look right for anything speed related.

Could be anpr-type readers for vehicle approach/destination surveys or average speed surveys. I am 99 percent sure they are not used for enforcement.

It's not some sort of roadside weather station / road surface (temp) monitor is it?

This is an example of one in Norfolk:
